I`m travelling to the Black Forest area with a colleague on 1st September 2008 from Newcastle for 8 days . We have no detailed plan at the moment , just wanting to go as the mood takes us & therefore don`t want to book ahead .
Do you think this is possible or should we book to ensure accommodation ?
Your views would be appreciated .

Cheers

I'd be tempted to book the first night in advance and then wing it from there. That way, you can pace the fairly long journey from whichever channel port you are using, without the pressure of finding somewhere to sleep.

In Germany I have found that the local tourist offices are very helpful. They will usually phone around to see who has vacancies and/or off road parking. They will even book ahead for you if you can plan a day or tow ahead. Then, off course, you will see many "zimmer frei" signs on guest houses etc.

You should be OK in September for plenty of "Zimmer Frei" notices in Schwarzwald. Hope the weather is good for you (we're there at the same time) :D

the school holidays would have finished by then so no problem at all for accomodation etc, but maybe best as wessie says to book the first night

Thanks for the replies , I`ll book accommodation for the first night as suggested .

i can recommend staying with Birgit at www.neubierhaeusle.de/ a lovely lady, nice hotel, very very clean and great food, total for 1 night inc 4 course set menu and some beers worked out at €90 for 2 people.

There is a garage you can put the bike into also, but only slight downside is its next to a busy road with a lot of trucks, so if u want real quite ask for a room at the back. We were at the front and didnt hear them too much.

its a bit outside titisee - 5 mins on bike but nothing much happens there in the evenings.

bikes have free parking and also lockers to put ur stuff during the day at the parking area in the village.

JUST done 10 day tour didn't book anything and had no problems.
ride all day and spend 30mins most looking for some where to stay.
can reccomend little creek moto camp . you can hire a caravan if you have no tent. good food and cheap beer:beerjug:

From Ijmuiden, I'd recommend jumping on the motorway to Koblenz and then riding down the east bank of the Rhine gorge as far as Rudesheim, which is a nice place for an overnight stop, or jump on the Autobahn fom there for a bout 50 miles and stop in Heidelburg, which has a lovely old town and a stunning castle :thumb

Next morning, it's a quick ride into the Black Forest

We were there last week and didn't book and had no trouble the only trouble we had was hailstones the size of big marbles didn't half hurt
