Blowing fuses

Got my bike (R1100GS) back together after partial strip but noticed that the brake light bulb is not working. After replacing the bulbs I realised that the bulb was OK but the first fuse in the fuse box from LHS had blown. I replaced this fuse but it immediately blows every time I turn the ignition key on.

I've checked the wiring for any obvious faults but can't see anything wrong.

HELP Please.

What's been stripped ??.

Sounds like you've trapped a wire somewhere, and it's cut through the outer casing.

Thanks for quick reply Neil.

The whole front end was stripped to replace bearings in telelever, replace fork seals and powder coat a few bits. Not much in way of wiring around there. Tank, beak, rear mudguard and side panels for repainting. Didn't think I disturbed much of an electrical nature.

I'll go through every bit slowly to try to isolate fault. Getting dark soon so I'll try again in morning. Various bits of the rubber protecting the wiring are starting to perish with age as bike is now 10 years old. May need to re-insulate much of the wiring.

As its the brake light fuse that's blowing does that mean its on that circuit? Sorry for sounding thick but electrical bits confuse me.

Try disconnecting/unplugging the front and rear brake switches, then see if the fuse still blows.

Wiring

Wiring won't go rotten, it's all pvc, listen to Mr S. and you won't go far wrong.

To save on fuses use a bulb holder & bulb with spade connectors fitted & plug in to the fuse holder that blows. It will light up while there is a short ,when the short is moved the bulb will go out
