Not sure where to post this, has the recall started here yet? I searched but didn’t see anything. I know a few people who's plastic fuel connection became brittle split. Made quite a mess in the garage.

SUMMARY: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2005-2011 model year R-model motorcycles, model year 2005-2012 K-model motorcycles, model year 2010-2011 S 1000 model motorcycles, and model year 2006-2010 HP2 motorcycles. In the affected motorcycles, the fuel pump flange (and the auxiliary fuel pump flange if equipped) could develop cracks and leak fuel.
CONSEQUENCE: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.
REMEDY: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will either reinforce the fuel pump flange or replace the pump, as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in February 2014.

Hi.
There is lots on this topec on the Web site for ADVrider including
a 'fix' using parts supplied via 'Beemer Boneyard (USA).
These parts include a 'collar' and metal quick disconnect fittings.
A search on the ADVrider site will provide all the information.
It looks like quite a common problem.

Hope this helps,
John

I guess that 'flanges' are old school, no mention of LCs in the list - what is a 'flange' anyway?

Is it likely you could have the update work carried out by BMW, if you took your bike in?

This has been rumbling on over the pond quite some while. Some fuel tanks have leaked where the high pressure fuel connection is screwed in to the fuel tank pump access plate due to cracking where the quick detach adaptor screws into the access plate. If the crack(s) go down deep enough, high pressure fuel can spray out. Mine is cracked and has been for a long time (most probably are) but no leaks.

Various fixes have been tried, a small specially made clamp around the flange is one of them. Strange it's been more an issue over there than here :nenau

Not an LC issue, I believe BMW came up with a new assembly for late model hex heads / twin cam, not sure when these changes took place or what models were fixed but it was done before the LC

VOSA is aware of the issue. A copy and paste from another forum.

Heads up for the UK guys. Recently there's been details of a recall in North America of all their post 2004 bikes for fuel pump leak problems. I emailed and asked VOSA if they were aware of it and got this reply.

"Dear Mr Parry

Thank you for your email. This has been forwarded to the Vehicle Safety
Team.

I can confirm that we are aware of this recall in Canada and we are in
touch with BMW UK to discuss this issue.

Regards and Happy New Year.
