Boring WiFi question!

I have a BT Homehub 4. Been working fine for a year, and still does, except with my Macbook.

The Mac can 'see' the router, it appears under the airport symbol with full strength, but I cannot connect to it. It keeps asking for the password repeatedly, but then just timeouts.

When I go onto Network page of System Preferences, it says the airport is on (but with an orange light). It says 'airport does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet'

But I can connect to BTwifi with Fon...

I can restart the router and the Mac repeatedly and then after 20 minutes I can connect. Sometimes it works first time, but its getting less and less reliable...

Bloody infuriating when trying to log on and watch MotoGP earlier....

Is it a fault with my Macbook or the router? My iphone works fine as does a PC laptop....

To fix this log into your homehub settings onlin by going to http://bthomehub.home/ then going to advanced settings, wireless which should be under it and then click on the 5GHz and turn it off or rename it and click apply. So you can make your laptop connect to the correct frequency. IF you can connect to the internet on your laptop then you can still do the same steps and process on your phone or any device that connects your BThomehub.

Should I 'un-sync' with the 2.4 GHz?

if I un-sync it, I think I can rename it, does this then mean that I would connect with the 2.4 GHz or the 5 GHz wireless? Or should I just turn it off?

1 with each frequency - then see which one you can see

Absolutely +1 on this. The Homehubs have a habit of being pretty selective as to what connects to them with the basic settings.

I recommend that all of my customers with Homehubs create 2 separate SSIDs, one for 2.4ghz and one for 5ghz.

FWIW, I think this is basically a Mac problem. If you trawl the macsupport forums there is a work-around.
