bought a 1100gs, have a few question's,?

I've never really understood this "it makes oil changes an unbearable misery" argument with regards to the bash plate. Just how long does it take to undo four M6 nuts? Go on - I'll tell you - about two minutes if you're working drunk and blindfolded... Oh yes, and the only person I've ever seen 'bash' his 'bashplate' did it riding off a misjudged high kerb on the road.

And to the OP - I'll have our spoked wheels off you - the unanodised ones on my early 1100 are past their best ;)

I bought my 75th Anniversary 1100gs back in 98.....now got 80k miles on it, and has been an absolute legend !......During the first winter of ownership i tried to unleash as much performance as i could. I sourced a far bigger air intake from Australia coupled with a K&N air filter.....then a Laser PrO'Dor exhaust and a performance chip which came with the exhaust,,,,the end result was a very loud and sharp GS which emitted a lovely blue flame on trottle off and charged up to it's top speed shockingly fast !!...... After test riding every GS over the years.....it's only now with the 1200WC that performance has moved way on to another level !!.........Take it from me !!,,,,, 98/99 1100gses were some of BMWs most sorted bikes ever.... classics for sure !!

was it a chip or just a resistor you recieved with the exhaust,?

i'll have to work out what alloy wheel's will fit first, then save up a bit to buy them, so i wont be swapping them anytime soon, the silencer will be the first mod, here's what i'm going to put on, it's a "cherry bomb" about 8" long, should sound nice,,

You do realise that the silencer on an 1100 isn't a slip on... It's a complete single unit that attaches to the down pipes. So... In addition to your cherry bomb you will need pipe work - not sure where you can get that from, aside from having it made bespoke. The silencer can't be simply cut off - either.

Found one on German ebay - so you can see what I mean.

Was going to PM

I was going to PM the guy but can't.
The OP has stated that he is getting the bike delivered next week. I just googled Ritebike and unless I have the wrong one. Their reviews are a bit mingen.

You may want to cross aT and dot the I before you take ownership.

If I have it wrong then my apologies.:D

nobody has answered my original question yet though, "will the ECU automatically compensate for the leaning off of the mixture by using a free flowing silencer"?? my old K75's ECU did it automatically, but i think the GS has a different system, any info appreciated,

I don't think the 1100 (or 1150) have any sort of mass air sensor, so best you might hope for is adjustment of the mixture during closed-loop operation (steady state cruising and the like) if it's a late enough bike to have a lambda sensor (or was that only the 1150s?). Wide open throttle etc. use throttle position and a pre-programmed map. Dunno if it's a problem in reality?

Did the K75 have an airflow sensor for the fuel injection?

thank's very much for that,,,
i googled "ritebike" and they sound well dodgy, think i read there's 27 companies listed at the one address, and they keep changing their trading name quite regularly, plus all the negative internet chat about them, i've only paid a deposit, so i think i'll nip down to bradford and test ride and check the bike out, which i really should have done first, doh,

looked on my profile, setting's etc, cant seem to find the section that allow's PM's, where do i look,?

you pay 12 quid to subscribe for a year, you get PMs and access to some extra forums (for sale/wanted, "pub" where you can find all the bollox you might ever want being spouted, probably some others). and your name in blue.

It was an actual chip which required the surgical gloves and carefull removal of the original from sealed unit !!

I had a P reg 1100GS as a loan bike for a year or so. The absolute fastest 1100 i've ever ridden, would leave all other 1100 behind and the 1150 as well. Mind you it used fuel at a faster rate as well.
And just about every customer who rode mentioned how it flew. And it was quiet so didn't draw unwanted attention or get tiring on long distance 500+ mile all day rides.
Sold it 4 years ago, and funny enough i worked on it yesterday.

The thing is the bike was absolute stock, nothing had been changed. Standard air filter, exhaust, no chips, standard compression (although it was always at the higher end of the scale). I went though the bike trying to find out if it had been worked on and could find nothing that wasn't standard fitting.
One thing did come out. It could've been a BMW press bike when first put on the road. It would have certainly have given the journos something to write about :augie

In my experience adding a louder exahust, K&N and chipping makes feck all difference, except make it sound faster and empty your wallet.

thinking about it and i might as well save myself a trip down to bradford, if the bike is a wrong-un and i say i dont want it i'd have probably no chance of getting my deposit back, so i might as well let them deliver it and check it out on my doorstep have a test ride and then decide if it's any good, here's hoping,,

I was up there just before Christmas having a nose around when they were still Viva Moto.

They seem to be the sales arm of webuyanybike and as such buy loads of bikes at dirt cheap prices and flog them on again there and at Cubo Moto in Huddersfield (there may be others). They just seem to polish them up nicely and then sell them on at a profit as fast as possible with minimum fuss.

If something is being sold to webuyanybike because someone needs the money fast, you're likely to get a good bike. If someone is selling something because it's falling apart and has just bodged it up, I doubt they are going to notice it before it ends up with a customer.

Some bikes I saw there looked ok (in my limited experience) others I wouldn't touch with a barge-pole. I didn’t see your 1100 when I was there, so I can’t comment on that.

Check the bike over and check the paperwork, before you sign for receipt of it...

It's the best £12 investment you will ever make:beerjug
The bikes looks good and GL with the purchase.
The R1100GS is the best bike out there. Build quality, value for money, a hoot to ride and you don't need a Masters Degree to work on one.

PS I have Remus exhausts on both of mine and as you said, a bike should should like a bike:aidan

Oh and you need a healthy appreciation for sarcasm :thumb

teamin,
is the remus silencer a straight through absorbsion type, and did you have to change anything concerning the mixture, ignition etc, or did you just put it on and it ran ok,?
