Bought a Stelvio

Just hit 12k miles, there have been some issues but all sorted. It’s back in next Saturday for some work, nothing earth shattering.
The factory have an overstock of loctite, and an understock of grease
Just back today from a 2 week solo Euro wander.
It still makes me look back at it when I park it, so that’s a good sign
Met a German bloke with a Duocento on the Timmelsjoch.
Had some Conti Trail Attack 3’s fitted just before I left and they feel like a perfect match for the Stelvio. They did really well on gravel too, for a 90/10 tyre they were brilliant.
The wisest thing I did was fit a WRS short sport screen before I went, some days were in the low 40’s on the bikes thermometer, so that airflow really helped.

Took the R1250GSA out today , third time this year (first was 3 miles for an MOT , the second time 160 miles to have it serviced )today I did 160 miles and that will probably be it for this year .
The Stelvio has basically become my go to bike (even replacing the r1150gs) as it is "so easy" to ride and comfortable at speeds from walking pace upwards , the change to a different set of tyres with a different front profile means the understeer that was there with the original Michelins has disappeared . Also the high comfort seat is so much better than BMW seats .
It has got me wondering as to whether I will keep the 1250

Question folks, anyone got any fork issues. I've had an issue where the forks went "wooden" like someone had wound the preload up mid ride, then wound it up some more. I've also got discolouration of the fork tubes near the top, you can see it in the pics. looks like excessive heat and it's both forks.
It's going into A&D Saturday for some other jobs, and it seems to ride OK again at the moment, but I don't think that's going to get any better as it looks like somehow the forks have "overheated" and when they do, it's almost like they bind. Never had this before on another bike, seems a few other people on the net have had similar.

I'd say that they are too close as bikes...large capacity shaft driven adv style bikes. If I had to pick just two bikes to own and keep, it'd be one or the other of what you have (or similar) and then something like a Triumph Speed Twin for pottering about on

Well, forks are fecked, so a warranty claim going in for new front forks on both sides, there's a few other people on the net that have or are having similar issues. Just got to persevere with Piaggio now as they are not the best when dealing with such things, nearly every warranty job they have initially rejected until the dealer has "persisted". Kind of takes the shine off things a bit.
The dealer dropped the forks out while doing the head bearings this weekend, and there is a circle of discolouration, caused by heat, same place on both forks, seems to have developed micro cracks in the chrome plating where it's overheated and is going to lunch the seals.
Will report back in when I hear back from Piaggio, all I can say though is I am so grateful I have a good dealer who will push back. This could be a protracted process with the factory being closed for summer.
Hope you get sorted without too much fuss. Your comment on having a good dealer has cemented my view on getting. Stelvio unfortunately as we don’t have one in NI. One in Dublin but my concern would be how this would work “across’ the border.

Have seen a couple of fork issues mentioned online , I now have the extra two years full extended manufacturers warranty on my bike , two years were cheaper than one years Insured warranty cover on my BMW .
So mine has full warranty until June 2028
All manufacturers have issues, it’s just how they handle them. Replacing the forks isn’t a big job as we know, it’s just waiting out on Piaggio now sorting their admin out, authorising it and shipping a set out.
Apart from the fork glitch, it was great fun on my solo euro tour a couple of weeks ago. 3500 miles and boxed off plenty of passes I’d missed on previous trips or wanted to cover again, best of all, it was usually the only Stelvio (apart from one stop) parked up.

Three years ago was parked up at the top of the Glockner, bike park was rammed full and there was at least another tem BMW R1250GSA Triple Blacks identical to mine parked up . Comes to something when you have to start looking at the plate to recognise your own bike
Agreed, Piaggio can be a nightmare with warranty claims. Declined to replace the fuel cap/lock on my V85TT because the bike was overdue a basic oil service by three weeks. Most manufacturers would decline an engine warranty claim in this situation, but a none service related item such as fuel cap, taking the preverbial I think. Despite contacting Piaggio and Moto Guzzi directly they refused even when I pointed out my repeated custom over the years. Eventually had it serviced as this was not far from the cost of sourcing a fuel cap myself and the warranty claim was then honoured.
