true apparently with cars, but in my experience with bikes, the tendancy is to grab too big a foot/handfull of brake. result: if you're lucky you get a heroic sideways slide as the rear locks. if unlucky, you get dumped sharply on the road when the front goes.

I have tried to do this (really treid and have failed). Cant handle the brakes on mine at all, the front seems off then you stop dead, the family jewels take you up over the seat ont the tank and back down again and that its. Curiously you can lock up the back wheel easily. The bike is really good, but the brakes aren´t. On my R1100R I could do it easily - In fact I am convinced I dont have ABS, I have just paid €1000 for the switch.


Weird thats what I used to say about my R100GS and R100RS

it's odd that even with loads of their brake parts made by well respected brake company brembo, bmw STILL can't get it right.

i'm talking generally BTW, you probably have the servo thing which i'd like to think has nothing to do with them at all.

These forums save the day again.....
Just started to go on a ride....
ABS light continues to flash as I ride down the drive... not much in the way of brakes when I get to the road... panic...
turn around and have a look.

The servo is not working.
Now... I did a little fettling at the weekend.. cleaned the brake shoe retaining pins. What had I screwed up? I hadn't actually taken the pads out and couldn't see what I could have done.

Decided to have a look of the good old club forums... ran a search on servo.
Found this thread.
Came to Pragmatix post... yes, I'd also tinkered with the rear brake lever... just loosened it a bit to lubricate it.
Had I done something to the brake light switch?? well, the rear light looked very bright and never increased in intensity when I applied the brake... bottom line, yep.. the switch was out of position... quickly fixed.

In the latsets TDM (or what ever it's called) that small format offroad mag.

The tester of the 1200 GS said the evo was intermitent... And cuased him to have an off when it came back on and he had got use to giving it a big handfull! (this was offroad)

Hang on a minute! This seems to indicate that the operation of the expensive, complicated, high-tech EVO/ABS braking system I paid so much extra for all hangs on whether a two-bob light switch works or not.

If that's true then surely this is Mickey Mouse engineering of a high order?

I agree - this sounds very dodgy. The brake light circuit should be totally seperate from the ABS. I suppose the brakes will fail if the rear bulb blows too?!?

Thinking about it - maybe this is over enthusiastic diagnostics? Perhaps the ABS computer is saying "something is wrong (ie brake light switch stuck) therefore I shall shut down".
