Brake Pads lasted less than 4000 miles

After seeing this thread I checked my rear brake pads, and sure enough I was down to about a millimetre left on each pad after 14 000 kilometres (9000 miles or so). I’m sure they would not have made it to my next service due at 20 000km. When I rang the local BMW dealer to check price and immediate availability of new pads, I was offered standard pads or pads ‘for off-road use’ for about 30% more. Does anyone know anything about off-road pads? What would be the difference?

Anyway, I went for the standard pads, and found fitting them to be no trouble at all.

I've just fitted the sintered pads to mine, too early to tell about wear rates, but I doubt if they could be any worse than the dolphin friendly ones:nenau

Reading this made me have another look at the rears. Done 8k and there seems to be even wear and about 3 -4mm left at the moment.

Noticed the slider pin looking a bit rough so will strip down and clean.

Fronts have plenty of meat as well. Imagine they will be changed at or before the 12k service.

I tend not to use the rear much as having the servos stops the bike pretty quick anyhow. If I need to knock of a bit of speed on a corner I may use the rear .... "gently" :D

must be common fault then.

mine went back last week and had the disc and pads replaced after 6500miles. disc was well shot and the pads were just metal.bluebell have now fitted the off road pads as they think the dirty roads and a bit of off roading have killed them off.
we'll have to see what happens next.:thumb
