Out today got almost to Bury Hill when brake failure warning light came on. Pulled over and stopped retarted still on. I rode round a carpark but had hardly any brakes. Stopped and started a couple of time and the brake light went off and I had brakes, all the time the servo is 'whining' as normal. Got to Bury had coffee, came to ride home , no brakes. Tried stopping and starting but nothing so rode 30 miles home with no brakes. Got back home stopped and started again everything back working again. Tried again 5 mins later no brakes. Will book it in tomorrow but has anybody any ideas. Bike is due a 24,000 mile service.

Thanks

Following on from above post it has now been confirmed that the ABS modulator is f ed, tried a second hand one but that too was f ed.
Now thinking, I don't want to spend about £1600.00 on a new one from BMW.

Have been advised best option is to bypass ABS/servo and have 'normal' brakes. What doe the panel think?

Sound like servo pump failure.
How old is your bike?

:(

Who told you the Servo has failed ?

Did they show you the fault codes ??

I have a GS911 tool and live in Fareham. I can pop over and take a look if you like. Drop me a PM if you need help.

Bike has been on diagnostics and all fault codes have shown the modulator/pump has gone. Has been checked again and has had full flush through and bleed. All error codes deleted but all returned on start up. It's totally f ed. Thanks for your offer. Any view on bypassing abs and servo?

servo failure

this is becoming a problem for many
I have removed three servos in the last week and have another two booked in next week for removal 2 x r1150rt and 3 x r1150gs

Mine was one of these GS's - well pleased. See my post in '850/1150 Oilheads' today (yep - sums up my liking of electronics that I dunno how to link to another post...:augie)
