You’re a hard man JB. The boss probably doesn’t roll up at 8.30 and when he does get in he’s hopefully debriefed the staff before he’s got in touch. At least he’s come to the right course of action.

Whilst the owner may have not been at the premises you would have thought one of the staff members would have called myself to say they have my email and dealing with it.
 
That’s a tough decision because I love the look of it but I don’t want issues especially when a few other have had paint issues.

The engines aren’t powder coated like the gs and many other bikes, they are just wet painted.
I sence that a dream of being a MotoGuzzista are slipping away from under you...😭

I love the look of the V100 Mandello and Stelvio, but if paint on casings is as thin as that resembling a toilet roll, then I do not blame you for walking away.

My old boss wouldn't rock up to the workshop until about 9:50am on a very regular basis. He would then have his 10:00am mug of tea, and a meeting with all the top dogs in the office, and only then, (if he could give. a shit) would come to see the rest of us minions.
In three years I worked there,I do not think I have ever seen him coming thought the doors before 9:30 am.

To the OP. It’s a very positive start that they’ve agreed to come and collect it.
Hopefully everything can be resolved amicably and without shouting and stress. Well, more stress than had already been caused.

It’ll be a shame if you don’t get to enjoy a Guzzi. But understandable if you take your money back and run.
Other paint issues have been reported on the V100 but then many other models from many other manufacturers have had issues too. BMW, Honda, Yamaha.

I wish you the best outcome and many miles of enjoyment on whatever bike you end up with…maybe a trip to the dealership to choose and collect the next one would be a wise investment of your time.

I unlock the office, usually first in, and nearly always last out.

But as DD says in post #82 I would have expected an initial call from a senior manager before 10.30am on such a serious matter, relayed (with pics, no doubt) some 36 hours earlier
Maybe it’s just me, but I usually face complaints head on at the earliest opportunity-no matter how unpleasant it may be
Delaying just makes the matter worse and the customer more upset

What is reassuring is the speed of MG, they acted promptly and not several days later.

I would have liked to have known how the conversation went.

I really feel for you, buying a new bike should be a joyous occasion not a load of grief


At a risk of telling you to masticate eggs…..Before it goes back make sure you photograph the engine number and frame number. Just in the event you consider a replacement bike, it is just that a new bike and not this one having been through the body shop.

If you get a satisfactory outcome don't let it put you off Guzzis. They are cracking bikes and although I've had a slight disappointment with the paint coming off the front cover on my V100. It isn't going to put me off the Stelvio. One of the first things I'll do is remove the front cover and have it powder coated. Should you have to do that? No. But something I'm prepared to do. Maybe I see Guzzis through rose tinted glasses? Who knows. In all honesty I just don't see any other manufacturer who's bikes excite me.
 
Glad they played ball and appeared sorry about the situation, hope they offer a gesture in additon to refund or replacement. The owner should jump on their PDI process to ensure it is more robust in future, a few more of those will trash their reputation so they really can't afford to let it slip. I did consider a V100 and loved it on the test ride, but for me there are just too many issues to risk my hard earned wonga as I think the residual values will be rubbish and I don't need the grief.

I would have expected residuals to be affected if paint is bubbling from the front engine casings. At the prices of new bikes these days, is it too much to expect paint finishes which are fit for purpose? Powder coating engine cases seems the way to go. Put it this way, if you bought a new car, would you expect paint to start deteriorating within the first year of ownership? I wouldn't.

I mentioned earlier in the thread, I had two GS engines replaced for corrosion on my WC's, one GS and one GSA with the black engine. I also had another engine replaced, along with a host of other parts including wheel and swing arm on a WC 1200 RT I Had, I will see if the old thread is around. None of them had yet seen a winter, and I am an anally retentive cleaner. Your point is totally valid, but from my personal experience, BMW have been one of the worst offenders. I have a mate down south who's GS Rallye looks like it was raised from the wreck of the titanic.

Manufacturers should do better, paint should be better, but warranty and how it's backed up counts for a lot to (IMHO) My V7 is mint, but no garage queen, used year round for about 15 months now, and no corrosion, save for a couple of fasteners I've replaced.

So, I'm not disagreeing with you as such, but it's something that is present over the whole spectrum of modern bikes, and Ding Dong is not so much facing a corrosion issue, but a dealer that's tried to feck him over and take him for a mug (IMHO)

No, I’ve had to email them to ask when there collecting, due @ 3pm

Tbh if it was my Business I would have been @ the customers for 9am and not at the end of the working day, I presume it ain’t going to resolved today so maybe tomorrow !! tho I’m not to bothered and not letting it stress me, I’ve got more on my mind, this time of yr ain’t great for me due to the passing on my mother 9th Dec 3 wks after my father, it will be 2 years but it don’t get easier.

I will update this thread as of when I hear back.

I totally agree with you. BMW are no better and the only reason I bought another was they've at least looked after me when I've had issues. My current 1200 is now 5 years old and just starting to show some bubbling under the engine sump but otherwise is fine. I clean mine after each wet outing and around weekly if dry, re-applying acf50 as needed but am under no illusions this'll stop corrosion where paint is concerned. It's funny but my old air heads and my old Guzzi V50 being just bare alloy engine castings hardly suffered at all, and neither did my '78 Darmah Desmo. You just rode them and never worried about things like that. Progress doesn't always mean better. Shafts on the old air heads seemed to last longer too. 44K miles on my old R100RT with nothing more than regular home maintenance. My R650 was just the same. Newer bikes may be more reliable in some ways but overall, seem more costly to run and maintain.
