Tried to remove grub screw from inside clutch bleed holder thing, but is incredibly tight, :( fit hex drive bit to 1/4 drive ratchet, :) hold clutch bleed holder thingy with Mole grips,:D apply a little pressure and hex bit rotates within grub screw,:spitfire. I will probably unscrew the whole thing off the hose and drill it out, should'nt be too dificult as the grubscrew appears to be made of lead:eek: Anyone else had this happen and what did you do???

Nope, but from one of St Eptoe's old posts I seem to remember him saying just cut it off and replace it with a normal bleed nipple :nenau

If you can't do the normal things (hammer in the next size hex up, heat, soak in penetraing oil etc etc) it may be worth doing......I'd try direct heat on the outside of the bareo part though first and hope it expands a little, after leaving it soaked in a yoghurt pot of Duckoil or something over night .

Thanks Fanum, might give it a go, I think the holder is made of Aluminium so should expand a bit more than the grub screw with a bit of heat:thumb

I reckon it might be steel actually....I had a pair of mole grips on mine when I was bleeding the thing in the cold in North Wales- it felt harder than ally and didn't mark up at all ;)

Unscrew the whole unit, and leave it in boiling water - you might then be able to get the grub screw out.

Thats what happens when they're left for the bmw recommened 2 years inbetween clutch bleeding. Bleed it yearly and you shouldn't have it seize in place.

Or just do as tufty says, unscrew the wholeunit and replace with a normal bleed nipple. Which you should have anyway, because thats what you screw into the unit to bleed it :thumb

Cheers for that folks, :thumb Although same thing has just happened with the front right hand brake caliper:eek: not doing very well at the mo' I'm off to the fridge:beer:

Has it got the same silly unit fitted thats used on the clutch ??

Take it off and replace it with a proper bleed nipple. BMW only use the silly unit because they reverse fill at the factory, and the silly unit it makes it easier for them.

Yes, it's the same silly unit. I wondered why it was there. Standard bleed nipple going in then, thanks:beerjug:

Same thing happened to me, after reading a posting made by Steptoe I removed the holder & replaced it, a lot easier than trying drill out the grub screw. When refitting the new one I covered it with a tape to stop the road crap & salt doing the same again & seizing the grub screw again. From memory I think the part is about £8. Hope this helps.

Tried to remove grub screw but total failure and both units are knackered so chucked them out followed advice and went and bought 2 bleed nipples (BM ones), fitted them to caliper and Clutch bleed pipe, excellent job all done and dusted:bounce1
