CAM CHAIN ADJUSTER/tensioner

Can anyone tell me if ...1. the rattle from the adjuster (they all do that, sir) is just an irritation that gets to a point but generally can be left until any major service or convenient time,or is it something that needs addressing quickly to stop any major damage?
...2. On the updated version there appears to be no spring involved to provide tension like the original, so what provides the tension ?....and finally ....3. are there tensioners both sides of the engine?
This is for an 04 1150 GSA twin spark...

Spoke with blue bell..

Went to take my bike out today and the oil light keeps coming on, so spoke with the Service Tech at Blue bell.. nice helpfull Chap.

My problem is apparently looking like the oil switch. As Tim said, indeed tensioners are hydraulic (I didnt know that before I rang him) and rattle when you first start the bike BUT should die down once oil reaches them and pressure builds.

If the immediate rattle when you start the bike doesnt die down in volume, or gets louder, then you need it looking at. I think the chains may not likly damage, but other items might, due to the lack of oil pressure.

My bike is running as smoothly as it did before hand, and the rattle die a fes seconds after starting so looks like pressure is there, but the oil pressure switch is dead (a likly thing to happen after fordding apparently as the steam/water temp shock can damage them. I went through a ford last weekend and the bike steamed once hell of a lot so certainly seems possible In my book for my problem).

1.Rattles are generally not good.Chains hitting things etc.
2.There is a spring hidden in the housing part.
3.Tensioners both sides,but only the near side cylinder has a tendency to rattle.
Easy to replace,noticeably quieter afterwards.Also using 15/50 oil helps.

I'd suggest on such a high mileage bike as yours that you experiment, sorry, replace yours immediately. Then after you've fuc..........encountered problems, but finally done it. You can show me how it's done

Done this on my old 1150, did not have to take off the throttle body and made the job much quicker.

oil pressure

my oil pressure light came on after a wet weekend in wales(is there another sort) after fording, carried on and made an assumption that it was the water, it was fine after about 10 miles of road use
