So have an 06 F800S , which i picked up a few years back as a project. Not terrible nick but needs work. It's been resting untouched covered. Decided to take it out yesterday to have a start at it. Needs a service and the chain tensioner was always quite loud even when warmed up.

Wanted to try adjust the tensioner by putting a 1mm washer in to shorten the spring. As a test before buying a new one to see if it lowered the noise.

But I cannot get the bolt back in, she practically popped out which shows the hydraulic piston and spring are strong. But I've tried for 2 hours to get the bolt back on. It's not that it's fidgety it's near impossible to place home. I'm trying to put back as is without the new washer to restore as was.
But bolt is a nightmare to press into position and get a turn on it.

Any tips? And experience of this, is there a nack or tool that simplifies this.

Coming back to this.

Didn't have enough leverage from the side to press bolt on whilst also trying to thread it on.

So stripped the farings off and the airbox, moved the ecu frame aside and this opened top access. Put a few bits of timber through the frame for leverage to press a pry bar off. This allowed some measure of controllable forward pressure towards the head. And turned the bolt with a 22mm ratcheting spanner.

Tricky but it was the only method I could get that worked the spring simply had too much outward pressure for anything else.

Done !
