Cam Chain Tensioner Leaking oil

Hi,
I’ve got a slight oil leak from the cam chain tensioner on my 2010 GSA.

The Haynes manual says I have to get it to TDC and lock it with a special tool… etc.

Do I have to do all the faff in the manual or can I just lift it, pop a new washer on and pop it back on?

Also, I can’t see a way to get a torque wrench on it as it’s a bit tight in there, but does anyone have a tip for this.

Have you tried nipping it up, with a ratchet ring spanner?

That’s the plan if it’s a full faff job but I thought if it’s easy I’ll pop a new sealing washer on.

I understand your rationale, but surely best go with the simple approach first.

Thanks for the link very handy. I’ve nipped it up and hopefully see another 97k oil free kms….

Or if it leaks again, I’ll pop a new washer on.

Anyone tell me if it’s the full routine or can it be slid out on situ and piped straight back in again with a new washer?

Good article, could well explain the leak on my old tc which is coming from that general diangel.
