I am getting quite a bit of noise on the Left hand cylinder on start up on my 05 1200. It normally lasts for a few seconds but went on for about a minute today. There seems to have been a start up problem with the LHS cam chain tensioner on the 10** series oilheads, supposed to have been fixed on the 1200.

Does this part fail on the 1200s? I'm not really too bothered about a bit of noise on the warm up, more that this might indicate that the part will fail completely in the future.

Don't think the tensioner is an issue on the 1200 but this wouldn't mean a one-off problem is impossible, or that I might be quite wrong and it's been noted before. I've had one or two instances where it's taken a few seconds to quieten down, usually after an oil change. Some folks pre-fill the oil filter to prevent this. It's possibly a sticky tensioner as the engine ought to have full oil pressure in the system quite quickly after start-up?

I was thinking it could be sticky, as long as it is just on start up then it shouldn't be a problem. Since there are no other replies, I assume nobody has had to replace this part before. Will keep an eye on it for now.
