Is it possible to tell from the outside whether it's been done or not? Anyone got any before and after pics?

livin' the dream

It is, but you need to be a three fingered double jointed marshan on the left hand side cos it's V tight in there. Easy enough with the right tools though.

It's ok I know one of these Martians you speak of in the Harley section. He could help. :D

Tensioner

If the bolt head is 17mm thens its original and could do with changing.

The new one should be 15mm

There is a thread on here if you do a search.

Mine came from Motorworks as well.

I found it an easy job, used to be in the motor trade, its a bit tight but with the right tools and a bent bit of wire its OK.

Not sure if run in is right "run out" might be a better description, hates trafic, loves long trips gets much quiter after 1000 miles!:ChrisKelly

Just done my upgrade 1100rt 60k ml and big difference on start-up . Replacing tensioner 10 min taking tupperware off 40 min ..dam !
Got tensioner second-hand from fleebay €17 gift

Measure the size of the hex on the tensioner;

Old 17mm AF
New 15mm AF

This is great information to have. The previous owner on my bike claims he switched to the upgraded tensioner but the bike makes such a helluva racket on startup that I'm questioning it. Now I can check without going through the trouble of pulling it out. (I did the swap on my previous 1150 and know what a difference it can make.)
