I am having problems with engine noise coming from the LHS cylinder when the engine is warm. I intend to check the cam chain tensioner over the weekend as this seems to be a known possible cause of engine rattle.

Are these problems only with the older (spring) type tensioners or also with the newer (hidden spring) type ones? What type can I expect to find in a 03/2004 1150 GSA? New or old type tensioners?

Tnx a lot

Do a search for cam chain tensioners, all the info you need will be there and a link to the ADVrider site where theres a very good photo description of how to change them.
I did the same job on my 2002 ADV and just ordered the new type, then started using 20/50 oil :thumb

I would check the rocker arm end-float first. Good source of loud rattle!

done that already.

Valve clearances + inspection (all in good nick)
End float
TBS
Throttle cable play
TPS adjustment

Everything points at the tensioner. The engine only gets noisy when warmed up.

Tnx for the feedback all. Just ordered a new tensioner (190EUR, ouch  ). Dunno if they are available yet. It's in backorder and it could take between 3 and 16 days

Cheers

Are you using 20/50 oil. This is recommended grade and quietens most engines.
