I have removed the LHS head to have a sheared off stud fixed up.
Before removing the engine was put at TDC firing on #LHS.
On putting it back together and fitting the cam sprocket and chain with the locating feature /slot of the sprocket and cam at 12 o clock
the arrow on the cam sprocket should align with the 'tooth' feature on the cam housing. ( 3 o clock)
But it doesnt exactly ( with the tensioner back in ) its very slightly past the notch, turning the sprocket one tooth back and checking again (with the tensioner in) makes it far to early.
To give an idea of the position, the correct position is 1/4 past the actual position is about 16 1/2 minutes past
On checking the opposite cylinder ( which hasnt been disturbed) the marks line up OK.
The bike has done 22 k miles and didnt have any chain noise that i had noticed, I have checked everything again, made sure that the sprocket locates to the cam correctly.
Does it need a new chain ?
Suggestions please from folks who know and have done this job a few times
thanks
