cam chain

Hello everyone I bought the f8 before 15 days, when it is cold, the engine sounds very nice, but when warm rather hear the cam chain(bad sound)
any comment for this problem!!!Thanksss (and sorry for bad english!!!)

Costas - If it were summer I'd be tempted to ride over to Greece and have a listen myself!
I have had a similar problem - sounds like a bag of nails when hot - but BMW say it's just the noise 800 engines make but if you run it alongside a new bike the difference is obvious except apparently to German trained ears. They have said it might be the water pump so I am going to change it and I will let you know if it makes any difference. It could of course be the chain tensioner - how many kms on the clock?

Thanksss for your answer, my bike have about 6000 miles, for my is the chain tensioner, but i dont believe is water pump!!!

BMW seem to be in denial that there is a problem and they maybe right only time will tell.A chap who has the F800 also an 08 says his is noisy and his dealer said it was normal

Tis true, the propeller fins on the water pump do make noise sometimes, don't know if it sounds like cam chain tho'...Most cam chains chatter when cold not hot

Its the water pump, definitely. Mine does it, and so does Smythsons of this parish. and at least 2 other bikes I know of, one of which now has around 52000 miles on it. I was told by a BMW dealer that they all do that and no they wont investigate it unless I pay for all the dismantling myself.

Its non existent when cold but becomes apparent when the engine gets warmer/hotter..

Piston slap.....them two words mean massive bills...prey it is the water pump propellers and prey hard....Tosh

From what I've read it is either cam chain rattle on a very high mileage bike or a noisy water pump. Mine displays these symptoms at 28k.....
