Hi guys,I'm going to upgrade my Cam Chain tensioners, but all the information I have found only shows replacing one, the top one left side sitting on the bike.
Am I right in presuming you replace both at the same time. ( 1150 GS )

Many thanks Alan. :thumby:

The upgrade is only for the left one and the right one stays the same. I only replaced l/h side one recently and left the r/h alone.

Alan,
Yep LHS only :thumby:

Can be done easily in about 20 min's
Check the hex size of the top of the adjuster body, old is 17mm new is 15mm iirc :rob

Cam Chain!!

Many thanks guys, I know it's the original, I've had the bike from new 2003 ... :D. :D

Alan.

Did mine at the weekend and took about the same length of time.

+1

I thought that the 2003 bikes had the upgraded tensioner as standard from the factory?

Ok . . . . What's the effect of changing the tensioner ? :proff

I understand (speaking from a base of ZERO experience !!) that it's a better design - oil drain off when engine off, is less / eliminated ... so that there is little / no rattle on start up ... I stand to be corrected.

There are a few 'updated' ones that fail - locking up from new, out the packet.
The fact that the tensioner is new and of the later type is not a guarantee that it will cure the problem. Calling Arcboutant to the Red Courtesy phone..!

I've got a 2003 and my left hand chain rattles like a bastard when starting with a hot engine. but goes quiet immediateley the oil pressure gets there. I will get around to replacing it soon with the modified parts.

Here's a handy link to a photo file on the AdvRider forum - may be of help to someone?
I don't think any 1150's (even 2003!) were ever factory-fitted with the up-graded tensioner? - the 1200gs was out by the time this mod arrived - I think the upgrade is a development from the 1200 type??

I've never bothered changing mine from new 2002 1150GS either. Seems ok so I'm not fecking around with it.
