CAT yes or no ?

It's the bloody flappy valve that bugs me more than the cat tbh. I recall reading somewhere - possibly on the treetop forum - that as part of a remap you can keep the bloody thing wide open the whole time. But I can't remember if that's where I read it and even if it was 1200 or 1250 :blast

All I know is, when my younger son asks me, "Daddy, why's your bike so quiet when you start it up and ride away when the other big mens bikes are so nice and loud?", all I can answer is, "it's thanks to Euro noise regulations and that fucking flappy valve, son" (he's 20 years old BTW).

I would wait and see what happens with the rear O2 sensor, I am betting BMW have something up their sleeve, and also would wait until bike is out of warranty.

You will notice that the Akra headers have provision for that third sensor built in.

Exactly my point, the 3rd one is there for a reason, as some know, obviously with the cat, it will be 1 for 1 but without the cat, maybe later BMW will update something in the software for emissions, and the the decat header might send the bike into limp mode, better to wait is my opinion.

Thats what I’m going to do i think. Just have to content myself with what i have for now.

Im considering, when funds allow, fitting a set of Acrapovic Titanium headers. They are fitted with the flappy valve as standard and they can come with a CAT built in. Question is would it be best with or without CAT. ? What would you do ?

If you order it without the cat, you’ll have to make sure your bike’s software is never updated to euro 5. That might be a problem in case there’s some other update you want/need that might also include cat 5. Make sure the new system has provisions for the rear O2.

Looking at the pics, id say it has provision for the rear sensor i think. Not so sure i will bother Roger, unless a secondhand set come on the go but at a grand its an expensive bit of bling lol.:blast:D

I bought the Remus headers without the flappy valve for my 1250 Rallye to match the Remus can, and ended up with engine warning light problems. On my 1200 I had full decat Remus system, and you could put some extra padding inside the servo motor for extra resistance but remove the cables etc, and whilst it would show a dealer fault there were no warning lights.

The 1250 servo motor for the flappy valve has to rotate thru 90 degrees when you start the bike or it shows a warning light. My dealer tried a couple of things to bypass this but none of those lasted and the warning lights came on. Finally in addition to the warning lights I got one of those warnings on the TFT to take bike to specialist dealer. Only solution was Akra decat headers but with the valve. Expensive error.

Bummer , did your dealer accept that you were fitting the decat in relation to the warrentee , as mine has warned against it as its not a factory option with regard to the warentee etc etc .
To add tho if Akrro are selling the system with the 3rd sensor maybe they know more than the dealer...

Between fitting a AKra muffler that are designed for BMW, well that is OK I reckon, but full headers, it is like I already mentioned, any engine tweaking or tuning will certainly get the warranty slung in the bin, but as many will say it is their choice.

Here is my two pence worth, on the dyno a stock BMW full system makes nigh if not the same power as a full Akro. My bike has a full akro and my mates a stock system, on the infamous Hinkley dyno both bikes made virtually the same max power and the same max torque, both euro 3 bikes. But mine revs much quicker, has much better throttle response and the mid range punch starts earlier, add to that the removal of the heat from the right hand side I think its worth it but only just. Mine is also slightly better on fuel.
My bike came with an end can so I only bought the headers. After seeing the dyno results I cannot see the point of buying akro headers with a cat in it, the BMW headers are that good. Speaking to the guys on the Akro stand at Garmische they were saying its getting harder and harder to make any gains over the stock systems on modern bikes now, weight saving with exotic materials is a gain but on a 250kg bike is it worth it??

I believe that there’s a plugin you can buy, that gets rid of the dash warning light when you fit the standard Ohlins TTX. Is there a plugin that gets rid of the dash warning light when you fit the decat headers?

I have fitted the Ohlins and the Akro decat headers, and now have two warning lights on the dash. It does not bother me too much, as I know what they are. But if it’s going to be a MOT failure then I will have a big problem in the future. Is there any way around this ? I still have the old stock headers with all the bits.

The bike is a 2015 GSW, and I have a GS911.

My 2105 does show a earring on the dash, but if I plug my 911 there is a fault in the history showing as current but as it isn’t on the dash I don’t care.
