Clocks stolen...

I can't see lock wire stopping much.

If I was a thief on the prowl I would carry some basic tools like screwdrivers, pliers, wire snips etc.

Yes but the problem here is everyone is saying how easy they are to remove without tools.
So if one needs wire snips and a bit of force, and the one next to me doesn't, hopefully they will take the one next to me :thumb2

Idea for another farkle - Pacsafe clock protection bag. If they are that easy to "lose" might not be such a daft idea.

in that case the feckers will steal your bike and leave you the clocks, you could hold them up and go vroom vroom all the way to the cop shop.:D

I think the trouble is that the GS is not alone in having bits that are easily lifted, some without any tools i.e. side panels, screen parts, mirrors etc

I have seen riders use the datatag type etching on some panels and even clocks, trouble is that it needs to be visible to deter, so can look a bit naff, even so given the cost of clocks I think I would now etch them with the bike reg number if I had to leave it in public un attended

A suitable sticker should help. Though "Warning this bike is data tagged" is insulting to 99% of the population who dont want to steal anything. "Datatag protected" is more than enough - thanks.

My clocks were stolen yesterday in a road near Finsbury Circus. Happened between 11 and 5 and there doesn't appear to be any CCTV covering the spot where it happened so I probably won't bother notifying the police.

I bought a new set from Motorworks, does anyone know how much a dealer will charge to re-code them to my bike? Can't get hold of any local dealers today.

Clocks

The cheapest option is a bike cover
Fastening something down that's been designed by the manufacturers may invalidate the warranty may affect insurance
Cover it up
Thieving bastards
it boils my piss you work hard to buy a new bike and scum come and just take what ever they want
Need more vigalanties :beerjug:

More broken fingers and legs with pick axe handles

A true story a bloke near me built custom trikes and choppers
He had two Harley engines stolen from his shop
He found out who stole them
Told him to bring them back and he would let him off
When the thief brought them back
The owner said he lied to get his engines back
And crushed both the thiefs hands in his big engineers vice
NOW THATS JUSTICE
Guess what the bike builder hasn't had anybody break in since
Boy did I laugh:beer:

No break ins as he went out of business due to the 3 year free board and lodgings courtesy of HM Prison service. Bigger idiot than the thief:tosser

What I can't get my head round is they are being nicked to go on another GS, so where did the first person end up with no clocks, ie, what has started the demand being met by these thieves?
Are the receivers of the hot clocks people using this forum?

A wild stab in the dark - accident damage? :P

right, why isn't the rest of the upper front of the bikes being lifted to.....a spill capable of breaking the clocks is highly likely to be on the large-ish side!

The clocks are about the most expensive part of the bike that can be stolen in seconds with just a pair of long nose pliers. They are £600 new or ~£300 used. New are simply not available.

I struggle to think what else on the bike yields so much to a casual thief.

BMW have a job on their hands to make them more securely fitted to the bike.

I had no choice but to buy a used set as new clocks have been on back order for over 4 months. Went to a reputable supplier - Motorworks as opposed to the thieves on ebay.

Now to get them programmed to the bike...

No he didn't stop trading the tea leaf never reported him
He just told all his friends stay well clear
And they all lived happily ever after
Proper justice

Dealers are the wrong channel for this.

BMW HQ in Bracknell will be getting a stiff letter from me and a request for contribution given their shoddy fixing mechanism.

I will be very interested to hear their response to that one

Me too, I think he'll get a big fat zero and be asked to park his bike more carefully in future:D

What news, Wndy Chuffer?

Your success (or otherwise) will be of interest to your fellow biker who has just lost his in Finsbury Circus.
