Confidence issue

Currently we have '99 1100..'01 1150 & '05 1150GSA

I'm confident when riding the 1100 & 1150 but getting to the point where I don't want to ride the GSA

I just don't trust it...nothing wrong with it just don't have the same sense of security & feedback that I get from the others.


Anyone else unhappy with the 'feel' of their GSA?

To me its a no brainer.. you have THE best of the 1100s + THE best of the 1150s and then you have the GSA.

If you don't like it anymore.. and your reasons are perfectly valid. get rid... there's a ready market place at your fingertips with tossers gagging to get hold of one.

(and that does NOT include me.. I have THE best 1100 too)

Oh Yes!

I've had my 1150GSA for just six weeks now, and am having trouble with my low speed manoeuvring skills. An RSV Factory seems easy at the moment but I reckon it's the limited turn circle that stopped me from attempting squeeze throughs that now look simple on the GSA; except for the fact that I find it difficult.
I find the movement on the bars SO LIGHT that it feels like there's no weight on the front end but I am learning to trust it and accept that wide handle bars provide a lot of leverage. I've got Michelin Anakee's at the moment but am considering knobblies, for the kudos, in future and some suspension mod's as well.

Additionally, I have a R100RT (1989) for commuting in winters (when it's rebuilt), so I do understand a bit about adjusting my riding style (when coming from my first RSV) and think you should stick with yours. I reckon my recent motorcycle purchase is the business :cool and thoroughly enjoy my journey to work.

Yes the shocks are longer...

It's mainly feel & front end grip I'm not happy with, least bit moisture or muck on road surface & the front folds...same bit of road same day on the other Bikes & I can corner faster without any drama.

All Bikes fitted with Tourance, fuel load doesnt increase/decrease problem


I might fit the GS shocks to the GSA to see if anything changes.

since speaking to you last i have fitted the gsa suspension and knobblies to the gs and the handling has been transformed .....

for the worst unfortunately .. ,

prior to fitting the bits the bike felt well planted and you had to nudge a wee bit of countersteer to drop it into corners , but now just look at the bars and it feels like it's falling over onto it's side , i put it down to new rubber and higher cog , but i'm not liking the feeling , i'll give it a couple of thousand miles and see how it pans out . iv'e kept the standard suspension just in case

What suspension settings you running?
Try backing the preload off a little at the front and possibly a touch more at the back.
Backing it off at the front should let the suspension do the work rather than the tyre (hence the feel of it tucking) and raising the rear will shift a little weight forward to make it more planted.
Obviously after checking your tyre pressures are ok....

can plaint mine with total confidence in the bends so much so my brother thinks i am nuts.ride in london most weeks on to in and out of traffic no probs,like adama says setup may be all wrong.my 1150gsa is better then my 1100gs all day long

Colin - knowing you you'll be at the limit of adhesion anyway

The GSA is just heavier and all other things being equal, it will give way before the the other two. But with your past you know this anyway.

i had a 1150gsa

couldnt fault the handling, a mate of mine on a ninja 750 sportsbike
tried on several occaions to lose me on the twisties, and failed miserably.
90 mph arse hanging off the side of the bike,we sure wasnt hanging around.handling was brill.

Had GSA for 50 miles!

This is interesting. Picked it up last night in the pissing rain. Haven't had a BM for 25yrs. Amazing thing, rock steady on the motorway stretch, slid about a bit on the back roads-back tourance near the end of its life- but slowly and in quite a cuddly way! Agricultural whines and clonks very like my old R100.

Think already this could be best ever bike- and I've had nearly 50 in my time. Weight and bulk just melt away once the gargantuan beastie's underway, and before you ask I'm 5' 8" (and a half...)

Only regret is that the overdrive top gear is absent from the GSA- although I'll appreciate the low first on the dirt roads back home.

If you had said a 1200GS I could have understood as thats why I sold mine and went back to an 1150 but my R1150GS handles like a dream, in fact nearly as good as my R850GS which I sold a few years back

Disappointed you aren't happy, unfortunately with the geometry change it will steer more quickly...problem I have is lack of grip.

I've ridden loads of GS's & owned 1100/1150/1200's..not had one with this problem.

This GSA is the 13th Perhaps it that

I've not ridden a GSA, but I may sound daft here, but have ye tried a comparison test with someone else's bike, and with other gadgie on yours, just to either confirm if it's a problem or not, second opinion and all that

Do you get a front 'shimmy @ 30 or 40mph, when off the power and coasting, like through a village etc

You could have a duff Tourance, i've a few in my time

I think the 11GS handles better, different wheelbase and lower to ground

You're welcome to come down & try out my 1150GSA with Ohlins, to see if you can see if yours is different..................mine is set up probably similar to yours and maybe a bit different to other people's GSA's
