Confidence issue

I've not ridden a GSA, but I may sound daft here, but have ye tried a comparison test with someone else's bike, and with other gadgie on yours, just to either confirm if it's a problem or not, second opinion and all that

I've owned both R1150GSA & R1200GSA before so know what they should be like..... I can also compare against our GS's.
It's not a handling issue & Bike steers fine..it simply doesn't have any grip


No way I'm letting anyone loose on the GSA...if I'm struggling with it you lot would crash

Do you get a front 'shimmy @ 30 or 40mph, when off the power and coasting, like through a village etc

You could have a duff Tourance, i've a few in my time

I think the 11GS handles better, different wheelbase and lower to ground

You're welcome to come down & try out my 1150GSA with Ohlins, to see if you can see if yours is different..................mine is set up probably similar to yours and maybe a bit different to other people's GSA's

This is interesting. Picked it up last night in the pissing rain. Haven't had a BM for 25yrs. Amazing thing, rock steady on the motorway stretch, slid about a bit on the back roads-back tourance near the end of its life- but slowly and in quite a cuddly way! Agricultural whines and clonks very like my old R100.

Think already this could be best ever bike- and I've had nearly 50 in my time. Weight and bulk just melt away once the gargantuan beastie's underway, and before you ask I'm 5' 8" (and a half...)

Only regret is that the overdrive top gear is absent from the GSA- although I'll appreciate the low first on the dirt roads back home.

Sounds right to me that is exactly what I felt when I got my 1100.

since speaking to you last i have fitted the gsa suspension and knobblies to the gs and the handling has been transformed .....

for the worst unfortunately .. ,

prior to fitting the bits the bike felt well planted and you had to nudge a wee bit of countersteer to drop it into corners , but now just look at the bars and it feels like it's falling over onto it's side , i put it down to new rubber and higher cog , but i'm not liking the feeling , i'll give it a couple of thousand miles and see how it pans out . iv'e kept the standard suspension just in case

i know that feeling probably the tkc's i was ready to take mine straight back off but dont know if i just got used to them after a few hundred mils or they got better with use but now they are ok and i more or less ride the same as with the previous tourances ,,,persevere mate give them a chance

The new tourances feel very 'iffy' compared to the old ones.

One tourance i had also felt bad - changed it for a new one and all was well again.

You are comparing different bikes to do a certain thing ...... ?

If the two were the same - the 1150GS and GSA - then there would be no point in owning both?

And in extreme situations like fast road or very slow turns a taller bike will of course handle differently .... centre of gravity and all that ......

The argument can be turned around and I could say that the normal GS kept bottoming out on some off road bits - but the GS Adventure didn't ...

Not happy ......... sell it - It'll go very very quickly ........ .........

The trouble with the wishbone, telelever arrangement is that you cannot do a bounce test. It could be that there's little or no damping and the wheel is chattering over the road irregularities and therefore losing grip.

Swap the shock and see what happens. The one from your 1150 should let you know if it's that with minimum fuss and no expense.

Sounds good to me, when my front shock failed it just seemed to lose compliance on small bumps, I think the telelever masks a lot of this behaviour.

Try clenching yir butt cheeks a little tighter and keep the throttle pinned on the stop.

Seriously tho I've got an 05 GSA and take great delight in chasing down the best Japanese and Italian exotica on the twisties. The GSA is a very capable tool and out of the box should give you all the confidence and feedback you need to embarass some hi tech sports metal.

Have faith in yir Germanic tractor, go forth and hunt down wannabee superbike riders and smile as you cruise round the outside of them whilst changing the resolution on yir GPS and switching tracks on yir iPlayer.

If you're in any doubt start at factory settings and you'll not be far oot

Nope...indicated 28.5 psi was actually 40 psi

I set pressure at 36/40...if variance stayed same that would be 47.5/51.5
