Conti TKC 70's

Am running a 70 on the rear of my GSA with a Karoo 3 on the front and I'm finding it a great combo. Have not had the back slip once yet, can't quite say that for the front but is was proper wet and I was provoking it!

Wear on the 70 has been excellent, it's quiet, free running, grippy all the way out to the edge, and not too bad on the trails. I will most likely get one on the back when I finally kill this one :thumb2

Do you prefer the TKC 70 or the Karoo 3 tyres on the GSA (I assume that you had a Karoo rear fitted before)

so what about the tkc 70's vs the anakee's lads and ladies as a 95% road 5 % off road tyre :)

Just back from a 3500 mile European trip on TKC70s.Some fairly serious off roading and fast French D roads. The tyres were perfect here.Grippy and stable in the corners and loads of traction off road.BUT they do induce a death weave over 90 on the motorway under certain circumstances.Still, good for the licence :)

Death weave on the front I presume?

I run TKC80s on my LC. Happy with wear rate on front but getting a bit pissed over the rear. Thinking will throw a TKC80 on the rear soon for a try.

Must remember this! I'm just about to fit a pair to my 1150gsa for a similar duration 2up trip (camping) so it's going to be interesting to see how they compare with my old Anakee 11s (which have been absolutely brilliant and are worn right to the edge of the tyre with no chicken strips )
Wonder if that weave is still there laden....

I did a recent euro trip on these too and never got any weave at 120mph on the autobahn. That was 2up with panniers on the superior TC ;)

I'm happy with them so far. 2000 miles and only a very small amount of squaring off. They seem much stickier than the Chinese Tourances in the wet and dry

This is reassuring - ordering mine today!

Had a pair on my Stelvio for 1500mls. I would think they are now going to be my tyre of choice.

Very good in both wet and dry, brilliant on the gravely back roads and quiet.

As for the 'death weave' I can only report mine are absolutely rock solid at all speeds, even when fully loaded.

There does seem to be a division in which bikes these tyres are good on, and which they aren't.
It seems that the non WC size tyres are all good, while the WC sized fronts are suspect.
Those WC sized owners who are having NO ISSUES, what tyre pressures are you running?

Just to add to the good/bad tyre. Some observations from a recent 5000 mile trip. Both bikes are almost identical and had similar loads, mine was carrying a bit more weight.
Got a set fitted to both our 09 1200GSs prior to a long trip to Norway, looked just what I was after. First off no problems with grip wet or gravel ok, grassy camp sites always interesting, and good wear.
Good mix of roads in Norway, typical gravel roads up north and twisty tarmac. Unfortunately did about 1750 miles of upright motorway to and from which has squared the rear off.

Initially tyres great smooth rolling into bends and no noise or vibration. After about 3000miles things started to got bad. Everything that has been said/posted started to happen. noisy, vibration, weave at speed and odd tyre wear along with a very odd sensation on hard roads at low 10/15mph speed like the tyre was dropping from block to block making the bars move slowly from side to side slightly. This is on both bikes and we did a good check over steering suspension pressures etc nothing untoward. We have had the bikes for 5 years, 30000+ miles and had a mix of tyres Tourance and tourance Next, Michelin 2 and 3. Never had a problem at all with any of them, 3s a bit noisy but nothing like this. Bit of tinternet research shows a big thread on the ADVrider forum far more detailed http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/new-continental-tkc-70.998092/page-33#post-27154575. The vibration at speed from the front, not a wobble a vibration was so bad things were coming loose on the bikes like battery terminals. Once home had good look at everything and have decided to swap tyres for something else as they are showing very odd uneven block wear difference is as much as 4mm between adjacent tread blocks and rear very squared off. Spoke to tyre man and he is going to send them back to Conti for a check.
Pictures of both bikes front tyres.

Just ridden my gsa 12 from sunny Scotland up through Holland Germany Denmark and on up to the top of Norway to the Nordkapp then back down via the Lofoten Islands .
2up with as much stuff on it as would fit .
5000 ish miles , I recon there is 1000 ish left
I found them to be very predictable and stable with no " moments"
Will buy again, having used tourance sets for many years I recon these take the game forward a fair way.

Hi Boatman. Guess we must have been chasing each other round Norway thats the route we did more or less. Something odd with these tyres. Reading lots of posts on different forums and no pattern re bike, riding style or load. Some, like yourself, are very happy and others like us seem to be having problems. Although we ride together I tend to be slightly more aggressive as in cornering speed and acceleration etc and my wife is much smoother slightly slower so seems odd that with two very similar bikes we should have the same problems. I am beginning to think that its possibly a "bad batch" issue. When we had them fitted the tyre guy said it was the first set he had fitted so will see what he comes up with.
Was a great trip by the way much prefer the north and the more open feel to the Fjord area having done both over the last few years, just wish it wasn't so expensive. Need to save up for a couple of years for another run at it...:D

I doubt if that will be my last trip either ,like you I also prefer the north with its BIG open spaces , no doubt in my mind that Norway is high on the list of best riding destinations :beerjug:
