Guys, I need some thoughts here please. My new GSA went for its 600 mile service today (I`ve only had it for a few weeks) and after it I gave it a wash and to my absolute horror found the evidence of rust on the engine protection bars.

WTF? I have never had a GSA before so if it is `normal` for it to rust so damn quick then please let me know guys and I`ll say no more.

Personally, it looks like the plating has not been properly applied allowing even a thin application of dampness to start the seeds of `red cancer`. Since new the bike has been kept in a warmed garage, rarley ridden and definately not ridden in the rain during this first 600 miles.

I am truly feckking amazed with this one......:tears

tell me what you think guys? What on earth will it look like after a winter?

Ta mate

Ta mate, I am not surpised, personally I beleive that there is something amiss and will contact my dealer............

blimey - even my bars on mine havent corroded - even after 7 years!
INCLUDING winter riding

good luck with the dealer... this should be fun :eek

Mmmm

Looks like I may have a duff set of poorply plated bars then!

lets hope the dealer does the right thing :nenau

Nonetheless, I am truly gutted as it has shaken my faith in a quality finish.

My 06 GS has done circa 20k and is spotless.

i'd be very surprised if they don't just give you a new set.

I'd take it back and ask nicely for a new one. I'd then do it again every 6 weeks until you get one that doesn't rust!!!

Couldnt you let him have some of your spare green paint???:D:D

Or fit an extended crud catcher!!!

Sorry, I will get my coat..............

mark with you gazillion pound machinery could you not bend up a set in stainless?

Not quite the point with a brand new vehicle though is it! :blast
I'd be back to the dealer like a shot and wouldn't leave until it had new bars!
Who is your local dealer?

IIRC there was an identical issue with the first batch of ADV's and bars were replaced by dealers.

Andres

Yep the demo bike I rode back in March 2006 that had only covered 800 miles had rust in the same places :augie

My June 2006 bike is still corrosion free after 27,000 miles :clap

bars

a guy i work with has a 09 gsa 1200 same thing happened to his bars
they swopped them no problem and the new ones were ok
don't worry

My 08 GSA doesn't have any corrosion on the bars or anywhere else for that matter plus I ride it through much of the winter. Still has a nice lookin' crud catcher on the front to.:) Mind you it is also plastered in ACF50.:aidan

Mark its worth checking your centrestand crossbar, mine went rusty after 600mile on my 2010 gsa, replaced under warranty no problem:thumb, but as you say does take the shine off the whole experience.
