Cost To Change

Everyone predicted this would happen.:rob

There's a simple truth, who goes to a shop to buy the old model.

The second hand value of the GS will suffer. But that should not matter to us, because the bikes still a great machine, and if you own one, just enjoy it, after all we only live once, instead of thinking about a dream, do it.

I have had some dreams and god they were good. And did not cost anything. But i have had reality and it has cost a lot but being shafted is not a dream I want. If we all stand up and say no. The prices would drop. But don't think that will happen. I love the BMW range but we need to make a stand.

Lots of rich folk change their toys regardless of the cost.

I'm not in their club.

Its not too bad as a form of transport. But as always much cheaper to buy used.

My Audi A4 cost me 24K only to be sold for 17K just 18 months later. I had planned to keep it long enough for early year's depreciation to not matter too much. I hadn't planned on a nasty divorce

This is where the stelaers make most money, especially when a new model is launched. Just keep yours or sell it privately and buy a barely used WC model at the end of the sesaon in Nov / Dec.

I can understand owners of gs bikes wanting to trade up to the new LC bike as its the newest model with all the extra design/tech etc. but can't understand why owners of late GSA bikes would want to trade for a lesser model, surely it would just be worth waiting for bmw to bring out the LC Adventure, then its a case of trading up to the newer version. Oh well each to their own, just my 10c worth !

Unfortunately depreciation is a bitch!

I'd still try to haggle...a 'toe in the water' enquiry is only going to get a tentative quote.....once he sees the possibility of a real sale going through things will get a bit more serious. :thumb2

My Suzuki Kettle cost me £1800 in 2008 and its now worth £3000. Cheapest motoring I ever had. :D

I used to have a Suzuki kettle......I would have paid for you to take it off my hands back then!!! :augie

I eventually sold it to my brother for £500, and after a failed restoration used it as hardcore under his patio!!! :blast

.....but I'd love to have one again now! :D....or a Z1..or a..... :D

I'd have to agree with that :thumb2.....I'm waiting for the GSA LC, and then depreciation loss might be a price I'll have to pay! :D

My 1200 tc cost £11,290 in Sept 2011.

A wc te with the bits on I want I would be £15,375 a difference of £4,085.

Cost to swap is £5,365.

The way I look at it is,a new bike is a far more expensive bike than my bike, the difference in the comparative new prices been £4,085 if it's costing me £5,365 to swap in reality the new bike would cost me £1,280.the rest of the cost is because it's an upgrade, had the bikes been like for like then no,it would not be a good deal

Maybe my way of justifying the cost to swap but it's genuinely how I see it.

It's been said on many occasions that I have a very different way of looking at finances, all I can say is it's seen me allright upto now :clap

So what in reality, option wise has a 12TE LC, got that your original 12GS hasn't

At a guess I would say SatNav prep and maybe LED lights and headlamp stuff and not a lot else

So that is maybe the RRP cost difference between the 2 bikes and is it worth £4k?

Cruise control :blast

But i have a Kaoko, :green gri So keeping my GSA

Has anyone chopped a GSA for a new LC ? I could not see the point , I will when they bring out the Adventure , but for my 6 foot 6 Manly physique the standard GS looks like my old enfield with me sat on it . The C600 Scoot looks bigger !!

Im going to say, that the deal is not that bad.

The LC is a new model thats wanted. For good or bad, the old model will not be as favored, Some are calling it Vintage already. Dealers will sell his at £9500, Dont forget the new buyer will haggle.

So if you want the new LC, your going to have to accept the hit. :blast

Also, you need to account for VAT. Your original bike was £14400 that Equals £2400 vat, Unless your vat registered thats dead money, the second you sign the paperwork.

I'm not sure how you equate VAT to "dead money".

It's a constituent part in the cost of getting that bike on the road.

It doesn't matter if it is a Tax or an engine.

Some people love quoting that "once it leaves the showroom - you lose the VAT"

So - if VAT was 50% of the cost of a new bike - the bike would be worth less than 50% of its original cost - on resale??? :nenau

Back to the OP's position - perhaps the dealer just didn't want his bike as a trade in?

If your VAT registered you can claim the vat back, assuming you use the bike for business. ex courier.
