I may be missing something but does anyone know what this recess in the tank is intended for? Noticed it tonight while cleaning the bike. Rubber strap fitted across the opening. Looks like it would hold a tin of tyre weld no bother, for those flat moments.

Bike is June 2009 by the way

I am sure someone with a lathe could manufacture a beautiful hip flask for that hidey hole...

Uncanny, do you know me? Another synchronous event linked to the collective unconcious methinks.

I actually was in the process of making something similar to this base
http://www.nippynormans.com/product...dventure-clip-on-pillion-seat-rack-cym-cy0200
and had gotten as far as making the stainless part that locks into the seat mechaniam today. I was going to make a kind of lockable Aluminium suitcase that I could put camping gear into, namely tent, kipmat, pillow, hammock, sleeping bag.
Rather make my own though...8-) with GW Engineering logo....8-)

uh oh..... mark aint gonna like that ......:hide

P.s. I have no doubt that Mark H at Cymarc will be highly gentlemanly about it all!

Hopefully he's making my crud catcher and light guards this week...

Has anyone ever made / come up with something that can make use of the equivalent space on a standard 1200.

I keep thinking the same thing as I always have to take a bottle of oil to top up on longer tours

Not necessary.... Always carry a van with two mechanics and parts to follow (enough to build 3 more GSs from scratch) for all the things that can fail in a trip. Ala Charlie and Ewan, aka Tom and Jerry "adventurer" trips, which needed half an army to cross Mongolia.

They are quite handy as they can carry the luggage + significant others when they get tired.
