Day jaunt to France

Message to several bods....

Travel is a problem,

I have managed to get on the 08:06 but JimboGS1200 is on the 07:20

Therefore, we will be hanging around at the Texaco for the rest of you.

If my perm goes frizzy in the rain there will be hell to pay.

Excellent. :thumb2

Now we are cooking on gas.

08.06 is not so far away from 08:20, so not so long to risk the locks.

From memory, the petrol station has a buffet (of sorts) so at least you can get a coffee and a bun.

I am trying to think if there is a sensible alternative place to meet up with you and I can't. The only realistic alternative is for you to meet up with JimboGS1200, 14 minutes or so ahead of us and go together to Cassel?

Having got your passport, why not give it a crack?

I agree, catching the 06 silly o'clock train is daft. But maybe we can work something out if you come a bit later?

We are not leaning Cassel, wheels rolling, until noon. Are there any trains available a bit later after 08:20? If so, I can probably work something out so that you can cut the corner as it were or meet you in Cassel. Thinking about it, we leave Cassel on the road we came in on, so our paths could cross somewhere. The main chunk of the ride is stage 2 from Cassel to to Cap Griz Nez, so at worse all you might miss is a coffee.

Neither I or ChasMill want anyone to miss out on the jaunt for the sake of a train or two and am happy to do what I can to sort it out. Have sent you a PM.

jimboGS... Well you is well early, man (as my Bangladeshi' neighbour's son says)....So full marks, without a doubt :thumb2 Hero of the jaunt so far, for sure.

.... What to do? It depends a bit on the weather. I guess it's better to wait in Cassel than Texaco / the Eurocity shopping centre? On the way to Cassel there is a windmill as you climb out of Watten, which would kill a few minutes.

Let's try to agree what the early birds - and hopefully the later arrival - can do. I am happy to try to sort something out if I can. It's just a day out, so I am sure we can cobble something together.

Richard

I will probably catch the 07:20 with Jim and we will probably wait for you at the Texaco. If we do decide to head off along the route early then we will do so ahead of time and post our intentions on here.

At the moment, we will be at the Texaco.

Lads going to give it till tomorrow and see whats happens with tickets trying what wheeledwidewebb said but if not might try the 6.50 booking and miss it:blast and see if i can sneak on the 7.20 me thinks wrost way they get me on a train at some point around that time..:D:D

Good stuff spa1403 :thumb2

If you are later and want to meet us, I have created five waypoints where our route from Cassel might sensibly meet yours from Calais.

Much further west from point 4 would be silly (though I have put in a point 5) you might as well go straight to Cap Griz Nez.

Good luck with the ticket and let's stay in touch. You have my mobile no. and ChasMill's, too. PM me yours if it helps.

Cheers

Richard

OK you and wheeledwidewebb at Texaco, when we arrive.

Just spa1403 to sort out I hope and we are complete.

Richard

Spa1403, I have been checking the Eurotunnel website on and off today and nothing has changed.

However you might want to ring them and see if you can get anything sorted because I notice that if you were to choose the 5 day flexible ticket type (not that you would as it costs loads more) then there is still availability on the 08:20 outward.

So if there is space, maybe your best telephone voice might help you secure a spot.

If my train leaves at 7.50, I should be at the petrol station by 8 ish!? What time do the majority of you arrive?
Is the petrol station the one on the left immediately after you leave the train?

07:50, I thought you were on the 07:20 mate. That would get you to France for 08:55 local time. Basically 1 hour ahead of the main pack.

If my train leaves at 7.50,

jimbog's train leaves at 07:50

our train at leaves at 08:20

I make it that you will be at the Texaco station..... um.... er....um.... 30 minutes before us. :D

When you come off the train the exit road loops around and brings you straight onto a short stretch of dual carriageway, heading towards the motorway. By the time you have selected third gear, you will see the garage coming up on your left.

I have made it a viapoint on the garmin route.

The best place to wait is on the exit road from the garage. We will, I hope, see you and worldwidewebbywheeledwideweb there.

Spa 1403 (where do these names come from) any news or views?

I have asked the cafe to hold enough seats for all of us, which they are happy to do, so lunch is not a problem at all.

Cheers,

Richard
