Demonstrated by the fact that, when dropping the final drive, some folk have found it seized but were unaware of the fact.
Stick some grease on the splines to stop corrosion. Put some white marine grease on the gaiter to help keep the water out. Then forget about it.
If you find you’re worrying about it then by all means do it regularly. The frequency should be proportionate to how much of a worrier you are.
For me, I do it whenever I have need to drop the final drive (once). I wouldn’t drop the drive just to do it. But That’s just me.
