Dropped it again!

Never heard of turning the wheel away from you, when putting the bike on the centre stand. Have always centred the front wheel. Doesn't having the front wheel on full lock, twist the bike as it goes onto the centre stand??

My thoughts too. I use a light touch on the bars to keep them centred, right hand on the pillion grab handle, then apply my waif-like body to the centre stand. No wonder I dropped it when my foot slipped off the stand...

Can't you park it facing t'other way so it'll lean towards you?

No. It would mean turning it around and pushing it backwards up another slope.
That would probably result in my average number of drops per year increasing dramatically :D

I dropped mine with only 6 miles on the clock. On my driveway.

Preparing for my first ride out, geometry was all weird (as I'd just finished a year on my ZZR1400 Performance Sport, so couldn't be more different)...

Just engaged the clutch to pull off my driveway and a neighbour came blasting around the corner, so I had a stop suddenly and over it went.

I stepped off as it went down. Just looked at it and thought, fuck... well it's down now, so just get on with it and enjoy whats left :aidan

Not dropped it since as the amount of farkles bolted to it has dropped the ride height 3 inches probably :D, but getting used to a new GSA on tip toes was an 'experience'

I think these bikes like to 'take a nap' every now and then.

They do seem to like to lie down.
After managing to get it back on it's wheels after the garage incident, it almost rolled off the side stand. Lucky it was in gear so it didn't get far.
It could have been a worse day if I'd managed to drop it on both sides I suppose. But would have made entertaining viewing! :D

Picking mine up after dropping it on the drive, the RH end of the handlebars where I was lifting it from got caught under the bottom of my jacket. And I'd forgotten about putting it into gear to stop it rolling forward as I lifted. I thought I was going to have to let go and drop it again. Somehow I managed to wriggle the end of the bars free from under my jacket, get it upright and onto the side stand, which was down...

All this makes me feel much better. I'm not alone!

The first time I dropped it was out on the driveway, onto it's left side.
I was sat on the bike, ready to paddle it back down the drive to the road. Flicked the side stand up then realised I hadn't zipped my jacket up properly, so I leant it back on the side stand which was no longer there.
Due to my slightly sloping driveway and the fact that I couldn't get it in gear for some reason, every time I tried lifting it, it would roll and pivot.
I almost had it on the third attempt, then something in my back went and I had to wake up a neighbour to ask for help. :o
Maybe I should buy a moped :D

In this context, there are two types of GS/A owners. Those that have dropped them and those that are going to.

This setup might work in your garage :beerjug:

I've only ever dropped ADV bikes. Triumph Tiger twice, and the GS once....when I totally forgot to put the side stand down.

I think that if you have an issue with pulling the bike onto the stand it may do you a favour , as some struggle , with it so its worth a try , if not sell it on , nothing lost really .:thumb2
