Has anyone got a new GS without the dynamic pack (assuming you started with the base model) and if so have you regretted it? Pros or cons? Trying to spec up and order a new base model GS1250 with comfort and premium packs and a few other bits and bobs.

I would welcome your thoughts

I did this with my 1250 gsa, just bought the bits i wanted...esa suspension, quickshifter heated grips and luggage rack saved about £1700 on the te version at the time.
Plus i got a key... fooking hate keyless shite its pointless(To me anyway) i ride in dynamic suspension 90% of the time and swop it down to road for bumpy stuff or gravel track, plenty soft enough!!
Never regretted it once, because it suits me!

It wouldn’t be PCP. I’d be buying outright. The saving on the dynamic pack would sort me with luggage. As for the quick shifter,my current XR works a treat,on the GS not so in my opinion..

QS on that boxer engine is rubbish, worst I've had, yet on the 1200r it's sweet as chocolate, strange but true.

Disagree , mines smooth , always has been , maybe i am lucky , but all 4 bike (gs 1250) i ride with are all smooth..... Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

When i test rode the GS I couldn’t believe the difference in the quickshifter between my XR and the GS. From 4th gear on the GS was fine but in the lower gears less so!

First thing to state is I buy my bikes with real money and do not rent them from BMW, in 2014 I was convinced that a new 64 plate r1200gsa te with all the then available bells and whistles was what I really needed .
ESA was crap even after 3 replacement shocks and 20 odd ecu updates, GSAP never worked etc etc ie it was a P.O.S
In late 2017 after almost £3500 of suspension work under warranty (extended to 3 years by BMW ) I was sick of the bike so ordered a new r1200gsa Basic with pannier rails , cruise control ,computer pro , sat nav prep, heated grips but no ESA,GSAP,SOS , TFT or keyless.
Saved £1000's on the price of a TE model and as I intend to keep it I couldn't give a sh*t about part ex values especially as I am opting out of this changing bikes every 3 years thing .
Every BMW tech who has ridden the bike say it handles better than any ESA equipped bike they have ridden .
Just recently at 3 years old I have fitted Maxton shocks (front and rear for less than the price of an aftermarket rear esa shock), to be honest they were not needed but I had some spare cash and like playing with the bikes.

I did look at the 1250's and have test ridden them twice but spent the money that it would cost to change the 1200 on a late model F800GSA as an everyday plaything instead

The QS on my GS is poor in comparison to the one on my XR, however it’s got better with use. When I first got it it was dire. False neutrals, lurching and clunky. The revelation came when I changed the FD oil and at the same time serviced the drive shaft splines. Cue Onani. They were fixed solid on a 2018 bike with 6k miles on the clock. A huge difference afterwards and worth the effort. It’s still not as good as the XR, but it’s very useable in all gears, even the low ones. I did a BikeSafe day last month and was confident enough using it (not looking a twat) with a bike officer behind me the whole day.

Neil W, I like your thinking which is the lines I’m thinking along as well. If I was going PCP I would tick all the boxes but as I’m paying outright I only want the things I need.. Each to their own though ..

I remember using the configurator on the base GS when I was after my 1st GS in 2015 and after I'd ticked the boxes I decided to get the TE instead. If it's going to be a keeper or you intend selling it privately fair enough but if not it might pay you in the long run to get a TE etc if you intend trading it in as the base models are few and far between and the "packs" will likely add little if anything to it's trade in value as most people want the bells and whistles. I forgot to add, the dealers told me this so it must be true:D

I’m with you Neil. I bought my 1250 Rallye basic as a keeper, with similar options except the TFT. I did my suspension straight away fitting Ohlins and RT wheels for slightly quicker steering. The reliability of some of the electronic stuff on the GS/GSA’s is rubbish as the various repetitive posts on this forum prove.

another vote for basic bike without esa, keyless or other crap. Didn't go for dynamic package, road is fine and fast enough. The 1250 has tons of torque

I recently acquired a 16 plate GS Adventure TE, I haven’t properly worked out all the electronics but with 17K on the bike the quickshifter works fine....I would concur with a few of the comments regarding keyless ignition....I simply don’t see the need for it on a motorbike and I would prefer not to have it as I just don’t see any advantage to
it.

Big fan of the keyless ignition here.

Stops scrotes leaning over and nicking your keys while stationary at traffic lights in that Londinium
Also it means you never leave them in the ignition when you pop to Tesco.

... but can easily leave them in the seat lock or toolbox, which is why a spare key for those is better, then you can genuinely leave the fob in your pocket - but hopefully not the pocket in your jacket in the garage next to where your bike was when you left this morning!
Also I don’t believe a basic bike is available now - looking at the configurator every extra is now a part of a pack and cannot be added individually.

QS

The QS on both my 2018 1200 and 2020 1250 have been smooth and worked well ??? No complaints at all ...

Me too. Heading to france last year I kept my key in my pocket the hold time. Don’t think I could do without it now.
