First thing to state is I buy my bikes with real money and do not rent them from BMW, in 2014 I was convinced that a new 64 plate r1200gsa te with all the then available bells and whistles was what I really needed .
ESA was crap even after 3 replacement shocks and 20 odd ecu updates, GSAP never worked etc etc ie it was a P.O.S
In late 2017 after almost £3500 of suspension work under warranty (extended to 3 years by BMW ) I was sick of the bike so ordered a new r1200gsa Basic with pannier rails , cruise control ,computer pro , sat nav prep, heated grips but no ESA,GSAP,SOS , TFT or keyless.
Saved £1000's on the price of a TE model and as I intend to keep it I couldn't give a sh*t about part ex values especially as I am opting out of this changing bikes every 3 years thing .
Every BMW tech who has ridden the bike say it handles better than any ESA equipped bike they have ridden .
Just recently at 3 years old I have fitted Maxton shocks (front and rear for less than the price of an aftermarket rear esa shock), to be honest they were not needed but I had some spare cash and like playing with the bikes.
I did look at the 1250's and have test ridden them twice but spent the money that it would cost to change the 1200 on a late model F800GSA as an everyday plaything instead
