Got on the bike tonight, fired up ok, off the stand into gear pull away, everything cuts out. sometimes when i turn the handle bars electrics go on and off. Anyone got any ideas at to what may be the problem. Would be very greatful for any advice.

what bike ? - your Raleigh chopper , your paper round bike ? --

its most likely the ignition switch loom -

if its the model i'm thinking of

Common enough problem - apparently. Wiring between ignition switch and main loom goes tits-up. Not too difficult to repair, I understand.

How do you know he's got a paper round ?

Bit presumptious, i think.

He might be a butcher with a basket on the front.. ?

I had a similar problem with my 1100GS. If it only cuts out when you engage gear I would favour the sidestand switch but I've had a couple of wires on the underside of the ignition switch come loose. Easily sorted with a little portable butane soldering iron and some wire strippers.

Thanks for all your help guys. Found it to be a green wire in the ignition loom.

Lucky you,

I had 3 wires break :(

Nothing that a soldering iron and some heat shrink wouldn't fix.

Hi Liam, red wire to ignition switch broke on my 1100 this summer, i was in Manchester at the time so maybe that's it:D
I have now cable tied the wiring harness from the switch to the left hand fork stanchion and loosely tied it to the frame under the tank so when the handlebars go from full lock to full lock the cable is not bending at such an acute angle as before.
Hope this has been of some help.
Cheers reyno.
