So there I am riding down a hill at about 25mph and the electrics completely shut down as if I had turned off the ignition. I coasted to a stop and switched off then back on again and everything is fine. The same thing happened to a friend of mine last month. His dealer traced it back to an immobiliser fault which shut everything down. Needless to say, I am off to my dealer tomorrow to ask WTF!

Has anybody else had this problem?

WC GS i presume?

Known issue to us riders but unknown to BMW apparently...happened to me 3-4 times in first 2,000 miles.

Seemed to go away after using only top tier gas (Chevron in US).

Likely causes CAT, lean OEM mix, sidestand switch, all gas except Chevron.

Also removed my CAT now via AKRA headers and the bike runs and breaths so much better.

I've done the same, and took the new GSA out for the day yesterday. I was surprised how lazy and docile the GSA felt in comparison.:comfort:D

Yes, done it maybe 3 or 4 times in 2000 miles, I just pull the clutch in & restart..
My 2011 GSA twin cam also did it occasionally..

If u find a cure let me know.. Not a biggie for me but does surprise me occasionally..

if you ask BMW UK they will say that we are not affected....

mine stalled at walking speed but dash didn't shut down. it looked like I stalled it. I have it caught on my helmet camera when it happened last time. I hope it won't happen to me when I'm leant to one side...

My GS 2014 had it for about 20 times now and I've done 1200 miles so far. It happens mostly on heavy traffic after downshifting to 2nd or 1st. More often when it's warm 80+ celsius. You press the clutch 100% at walking speed and there you have it. I'm using only posh petrol as well. I might be wrong but it looks like it needs a little notch up on the RPM when idle, I've manage to save it from cutting off a few times just bleeping the throttle. It would be annoying to have it when leaning to one side indeed....

same here. Dealer performed a throttle recalibration using the computer. Seems to have resolved it for now. Get them to try it out.

agree that the throttle butterflies are perhaps closing too abruptly when the throttle grip is closed. Its probably a simple software update issue to delay the last bit of the butterflies closing.

Intresting my airhead did it the other day. It was on the stand thumping over at 750 rpm and it weezed stopped and farted, like the above post all my electrics stayed on WTF!

My HP2 did it once at low speed and the was a reason for it was a slightly lose TPS lead which had water ingress from ridding through lots of deep puddles... Not sure if the WC has the same type of connector but if they do and you've been jet washing the shite out of them you may want to check it.

Did the display switch off (no rev counter, speedo, lights etc)? The immobiliser (EWS) will not kill the display. If it's due to fuel feed/mix etc. then the display will still be on. If it was the battery or connections on battery then the display would be dead. On my previous 2011 DOHC ADV I had the problem where the engine would stall on a quick throttle twist (in neutral or with clutch pulled in). I have also had a funny where the wind turned the key to the off position while riding, this hasn't happened again though. Let us know how it goes.

Yes the display went off. It was as if the key had been taken out. The bike is booked in for it's 600 mile service on Saturday. Hopefully it will all be sorted as I am off on a 3,000 mile trip around Scandinavia the following week!
