happily crusing along this morning and suddenly the engine just dies, restarted and then fine. This goes on for another 5-10 miles before eventually the bike simply will not restart, it just tunrs over the starter and won't fire. Full tank of fuel and no faults on the dash.

Wait an hour and a half for recovery and when they do arrive (and the bike is now cold) the bike starts as normal!!!

Drive 10 more miles, bike gets up to temperature and......it cuts out again, repeat above over and over again!!

Bikes now recovered to dealer, just wondered if anyone has any ideas on whats seems to be an issue related to running at temperature...the nice rac man thought it would be a crank sensor failing????

This happened to me on more than one ocassion. The worrying thing was it happened at 70 ish on the outside lane of the M25.

Bike recovered and after examination they said it was the sidestand cut out switch, which was duly changed, only for the fault to reappear some days later. As you say, if you leave it for ten minutes or so it will fire up and run for 10 - 20 miles then cut out again.

After three breakdown episodes and subsequent recovery they eventually changed the fuel pump and all is well with the world.

I hope yours is the same, and if they say it is the sidestand cutout switch treat it with scepticism!

After all that i chopped it in ( 06 model), for the latest 08 model which has been a joy so far, 34,000 miles and counting.

yep was FPC failure

I've added my name to the list and been relieved of 190 quid by SBW

You, in my opinion, have been stuffed by SBW. That fuel controller is a well known weak feature on 12's and SBW should have applied to BMw for a goodwill fix on your behalf.
Get back and moan.......nicely.

Yes - and the part itself is only £49 retail. And takes about three minutes to fit. Major rip-off, if that's all they've done.
