engine managment warning light..

Just been using the bike, which is running well enough - but the engine managment warning light has come on.

Have booked in with the dealer - but has anyone had any issues with this before?
Just wondering whether I should use the bike in the interim or not

SWitch off, remove key, have a cuppa and go back to it. Works on mine which has done that a few times in the first few months. Not anymore so it probably has undergone some sort of learning curve.

If the yellow light comes on then it should be safe to keep using, get it checked out by dealer when convenient.
If the red light comes on then get it to a dealer asap to be checked out.

The above comes from my dealer - an hour before heading to Europe on mine my yellow light came on, took it to dealer who confirmed it was a spurious reading from the the sensors that compare engine and cam speed, cleared the reading and the bike has not done it since (1800 miles ago).

Hopefully yours won't be anything more than the above

There's a couple of threads on this and no great problems. It either resets itself, or needs to go to your dealer to be connected up to the diagnostics computer for clearing.
The ecu probably picked up a strange reading from one of the sensors.
It's happened on my bike once in 10,000 miles.

I had a similar problem (after holding the bike on a very steep hill for 5 mins, with the brake servo's whining away).
When I restarted the bike, I got the red triangle. As the prior action had been brake related, I was a little wary.
I had a cuppa and came back to it 5 mins later. No triangle and all went well thereafter.

The red hazard light and brake failure light cam on 20 miles after i picked mine up just this Saturday. Next day it was off, Monday on the way home from work it cam on and then again Tuesday morning. I took it to the garage with the warning on and showed them it. When the bike was switched off and on again it was not there, but they saw it was when i arrived. They took it out back and it came back with a control unit failure and is booked in on Thursday for a replacement part (£910). Normally this happens a day after the warrantee ends not the day it begins. Most unusual and I hope it is not a sign for things to come, or I'll miss my CB500. I cannot wait to see what it is like after 600 miles.

switch off, on, fully (slowly) open and close throttle twice as per battery replace/throtle position reset. This cleared a yellow fault/erratic idle on my r12. I think I induced by moving throttle durring POST.

FWIW, dealer said there were no fault codes. I thought any warning always came with at least one....
