engine problems

ok,,, just checked the TPS and it's sitting at 3.30 volts ..

Don't you mean 330mV (0.33V)?

so , i dont want to be touching that untill i have done the rest of the work ,, is that right ??

Doesn't matter when you adjust it relative to the valve clearance adjustment, but you'll want to set the TPS (and reset the ECU) before you balance the throttles.

what i have read is that lowering the voltage will reduce surging , but lean the mixture ,, and increasing will richen the mixture and cause more surging and backfiring ... is this correct ???

In my experience lowering the voltage will make surging worse, raising it will make it surge less because the mixture's slightly (very slightly) richer and it burns more smoothly. Around 360-370mV should be about right but a lot of people experiment between 340-390mV to find a setting that suits their bike best.

I reset one last week, was at 0.33 volts and running badly, tweaked it up to 0.37 volts and its running like a watch :thumb2

Remove fuse 5.
Wait a minute.
Replace fuse 5.
Ignition on but don't start the engine.
Fully open and close throttle three times.
Ignition off.
Start as normal.

As I believe this procedure is only remapping the TPS I'm not sure whether this will make any difference to your problem, but can't hurt.

are we talking about the fuse that i have marked here ?????

hi kirky i bought one of the gs911 diagnostic tools in the group buy not used it or researched exactly what it is capable of :nenau but it may be able to find your fault and as you are not to far away you are welcome to use it :thumb2

that sounds like a plan mate ,,,
what is it ??? an OBD daignostic tool that uses a laptop ??? or handheld tool ?? i have an obd tool for flashing ecu's in cars with a bmw lead but no gs software .. to be honest , i dont think i'd like to hook the bike onto my laptop and read the eprom in case i killed the bike lol

Yes, that's the fuse we're talking about - it's the one for the Motronic. It's easy to tell you've got the right one - turn the ignition on without it and the fuel pump won't start.

if you do a search on here for gs911 it will show you what it does i have been so busy lately i have not had time to research it properly in fact i only registered it and downloaded the software yesterday basicly you connect it to the bike and the laptop and i assume any faults will be recognised and shown the good thing is i like you have an 1150 so it should work and as i said if you think it may help you are more than welcome to use it :thumb2 my # is 07988391728

cheers rockchunk , i'll keep that in mind and take a note of your phone no .. think i'll try the mechanical method an see if i can fix it :beerjug:before i move onto the laptop

HELP!
Just done a search on TPS and I get No Results. ???

That's because:

The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : TPS

There are mentions of the TPS scattered all over the forum - have a browse through the 850/1100/1150 thread and you'll be falling over them before too long.

ok , reset TPS to .360v tonight , but noted that voltage was bouncing around a bit . got it to settle down and took the bike for a test run , engine was sweet as a nut !! no pulsing and no vibration at any speed , i could even see out the mirrors , lol , however , i stopped for a smoke and switched the bike off ,,, when i restatred it it was back to normal ,, i.e. pulsing ,, vibrating mirrors etc , ... rode it home and re-checked TPS voltage , which was at 0.190 . reset it to 0.360 , twisted the trottle a few times and it returned to 0.360 , switched ignition off and back on and voltage had dropped to 0.200... any ideas ???? :nenau:nenau

ok , got the tps sorted , tried to balance the tb , no joy , so started spraying carb cleaner all over looking for air leaks ,, sprayed the bottom of the left hand cylinder, near the engine block and the engine cut out abruptly ,,,, started it back up ,, repeated this and it cut out again ?????? air leak ??? or is it supposed to do this ????? HELP PLEASE ,,, anyone got a pdf covering the engine ,, i.e. schematics etc :mad::mad:

just hoping theres an engine breather in that region that is drawing the carb cleaner in and cutting engine out.

There is no engine breather that would 'suck in' anything from the atmosphere unf, carb cleaner or otherwise. I have no idea what your problem is (someone else will be along soon enough with an idea) but, it has to be said, it doesn't sound healthy....
