Just dropped off my 3 month old GS to Park Lane with a engine knocking, they took rocker covers off and discovered knackered cams, I'm just waiting for BMW to decide what they are going to do, either new cams or even possibly a new engine. The bike has only covered 3k and I ran it in properly.

Mine has just been in ... got it back last night saying they adjusted something in somewhere... but it’s still rattling.
I’ve just emailed them ( chester Motorrad ) and asked to get it back in.

Had the cams swapped today, went to pick it up tonight and they said cams are good now but something else is rattling, maybe the cam chain, they’re looking in to it

Mines rattled since new 9 months ago had them take cam covers off today to check valve clearences ....going to replace all cams and followers one cam lobe is particularly worn but not convinced its the cause of rattly engine which I've complained about since new.

I had a noisy engine on my Nov 2017 GSA from the get go. My local dealership, Bahnstormer changed both cylinder heads - no difference to the noise. I ended up getting a new bike 2 weeks ago and thankfully the engine seems much quieter. Kudos to Bahnstormer!
Rattle
What does it sound like?
Mine has had a rattle a bit like the old two stroke piston slap.
It goes in on Wednesday for a 6k service and they tell me they do not do the valve clearances until 12k now is that so they don't have to look at the cams?

Nick, the noise from the cams is at half engine speed. So if its the cams should be easy to spot.
Pick mine up from Park Lane BMW cams replaced and now quite as it should be. Top service from Park Lane, it went in Thursday and I picked it up today at lunchtime.

Sorry to say mine is just as noisy after new cams and followers .I believe it's the three gears chattering with back lash there are three different sizes available I'll go down that route after my trip . Lind did an excellent job knowing I'm off to Poland at the weekend it was stripped Thursday parts delivered overnight and ready for pick up Friday including service.
