Hi guys 2009 GS my ESA isn't working I didn't realise because the setting changes on the dash as in comfort sport normal I didn't know about the little crash helmets anyway how do I get to the ESA motor to check if things are seized and any other suggestions please

Put the bike on the center stand go through the different settings ie one helmet etc. And the different terrains you should hear and see the the whole thing moving ul and down ever so slightly. You can also put the bike on the ground and change the settings from sport to normal then comfort and push down on the saddle you should feel a different resistance. If it's daffy ducked get the two shocks (makes sense while the bike is off the road) and send them to Denz0 off here. He has done my 2 1150's and my current Hexhead with outstanding results

Thanks when I press the button just one helmet shows the comfort sport mode changes but nothing at the helmets side

You need to press and hold the ESA button to change the preload
Paraphrased rom the handbook:

To adjust spring preload:
  1. Start the engine - You cannot adjust spring preload while the motor-cycle is on the move.
  2. Repeatedly long-press the ESA button until the setting you want to use appears on the display.
  3. Wait for the mechanism to complete all adjustments before you ride off.
  4. The ESA indicator disappears from the display as soon as adjustment completes.

Nothing happens that's why I want to get to the motor to check it out

You got a GS 911 ? If so connect it up and do an adaptation . Make sure your battery is in good condition too

Better to do this with the motor running. At least that's what I've understood, as the motors draw a lot of power, so repeated use of/cycling through the settings could drain the battery.

I could be wrong on that, but additionally I always try to switch the preload with no weight on the bike (I stand up when switching it). But also, when doing the GS911 calibration, I think it's advised to have the battery plugged into a charger or the motor running (can't remember which).

So just to check, when you have the engine running and you press and hold the esa button you don’t get it showing one helmet and a suitcase, then press and hold again and two helmets, again a set of hills then again a higher set of hills.

The sport comfort and normal cycle with just a single short push of the button. You have to press and hold to change.

If that’s not happening then something is wrong. Regardless of the suspension working the sequences should still happen on the button pushes.

Another one for Denzo, he can work his magic I’ve had a couple of bikes done. My RT would cycle through all settings above but suspension wouldn’t move so I knew it was screwed but it would cycle through all above on the dash.

If it doesn't cycle through the settings on the display then it isn't the ESA motors but the controller or switch.

It can take about 30 seconds with the engine running and a new mode selected before the suspension jacks up or sinks down.
