Out of interest, what is the view of the new "247" part? Has it cured the problem? Are there any recorded failures with the new part?
8 days since new "247" part fitted and the bike is still starting.....(Tempting fate

+1 thats why i asked had anyone else been told the same thing![]()
Streaky, I was initially told the same thing when the campaign was first announced. On checking prior to the 6k service, mine was given the all-clear. I can only assume that you got the tip-off before all the information was available to the dealers, or that (as many have stated above), your bike details were updated on the system in the mean time.
The ring just failed on my 04 bike today, the thing is it is a new ring, it was replaced in January after some scrot tried to nick the bike, fecking thing didn't even last 6 months.
Well got mine back today after an absolute nightmare. (see above).
Bike was recovered to dealer in Agen who basically said they were too busy to fix it. BuMW Assistance couldn't be bothered too much either so I stirred them up and they shipped the bike on Wednesday, one week later to dealer in Toulouse. This dealer did not have ring antenna in stock and so bike only finished today (Friday).
I then left hire car at dealer in Toulouse which caused BuMW Assistance (really Mondial) to have a throm as I should have taken it back to Hertz in Agen. Er, I don't think so! Agen to Toulouse is 75 miles and I don't have a bleeding Tardis...
Bottom line...
Bike off road for 9 days. Holiday totally screwed (not much fun driving a Meriva around the Pyrenees) and half of it spent waiting for phone calls which never came. BuMW Assistance are staffed mainly by people with indeterminate African accents (Obviously not located in UK) They never call you, so you have to call them from your mobile. They now tell me that I will have to pay the car hire as I did not drop it off back in Agen. I told them I would see them in court and that they couldn't manage the proverbial piss up let alone a simple breakdown in a civilised first world country.
I could go on but I would only bore the crap out of you.
Cheers
Roger

Apart from that, though, was everything ok?
I can't see how EWS could possibly have any impact on the rear brake, but the rear brake might have made the EWS play up. I know when my bike was usffering with fuel pump problems, I got the EWS warning a couple of times. Maybe overheated brake had an impact on speed sensor, which in turn buggered up the electrics.
Luckily my experience of the breakdown people (arranged through Carole Nash) and BMW dealer (in Austria) ws one of complete efficiency from start to finish.
I had the rear brake drag on my K1200RS a few years ago, which set fire to the gaiter. That was an interesting dismount...
excuse me for sounding thick but this EWS malarky is it for ABS models only as my bike is not fitted with ABS but the EWS thingy shows on the panel as it goes through it's checks and the orange triangle always goes out .... thankfully
