I've been meaning to get the front and rear shocks on my '07 R1200GS rebuilt for a while as they've felt a bit "saggy". They are Hagon units, now about 12 years old and have covered some 50,000 miles in all weathers all year round. They were visually scruffy, lots of paint had flaked off the springs and the clincher was on my way home from the MOT test (it passed), the rear finally gave up and dumped its damping oil.

I sent them back to the Hagon factory for the rebuild. It was taking a little longer than quoted so I gave them a call last Friday. "They are being worked on now but the technician is concerned at the corrosion on the shock bodies and thinks one may have worn oval internally. we'll call you back". At this point I'm thinking that it looks like I'm going to have to shell out for brand new units.

20 minutes later they call me back. "Yes, new bodies needed, we'll fit the latest stainless upgrade for you at no extra charge to what you've been quoted. They'll be back with you on Monday".

Result! They turned up yesterday and I have to say I'm astounded, they look like brand new units, not rebuilt old shabby things.

Cost was £161 each plus p&p, so £333 all in, and that includes a 2 year factory warranty, so as good as buying new. Cost of buying the same components new? Around £390 for the front, £575 for the rear so a massive saving. I'm well chuffed.

Nice one Hagon, great service at a very competetive price.

Well they look just great. Assuming that they work just like they did 50,000 miles ago, then I reckon that rebuild was a bargain.
