I have just bought a 2010 GSA 1200 and I believe it has a stock exhaust. Although I haven't weighed the part, I suspect it's considerably heavier than aftermarket options.

So, I am on the lookout for a good used secondhand system (if anyone has one :D) and would like to know what options are available for my model bike? Would a system from an earlier model 1200?

Thanks in advance people.

If you want to put headers and an end can on it as a pair you can put a pair from any R1200 GS/GSA (2004 on but not WC), although you can't mix a later can with early headers (or vice versa) as the bore is different.

The advantage of the earlier system and can option on your twin-cam is that you do away with the exhaust flap valve that can be troublesome, that's what I did on my 2011 triple black.

I put a set of Remus headers and an early type std can on mine and it freed up the revs in the mid range and sounded awesome without being too loud. I also had an Akropovic end can and did about 5,000 miles with no issues but my wife complained that it droned although it never bothered me.

I don't want to turn this into a sales post but if that's the route you decide on pm me as I still have the exhaust bits and the bike is long gone.

Cheers for that information, although perhaps its because I have just been subjected to Strictly Come Prancing and Barry "facelift" Manilow butcher Lois Armstrongs classic, but I am not sure I completely understand what you wrote :) I dont know what the exhaust flap thingy is and not sure what the mix and match bit meant either (yes, im that thick) but if you drop me an email to [email protected] with your phone number I will give you a call to discuss further (or just email - whatever you prefer). My friend also mentioned that getting the bike tuned by Hilltop Motors might be worth considering but I really dont know how that will effect the reliability or economy - although I shall soon be asking Mikeyboy that after he has a look-see at my new wheels.

ah the ebay bike from the classic car dealer,if you want to sell that aeroflow screen with a swop for an original adv screen set up can i have first dips?

exhaust wise i have had remus end cans all the way up to full akro set up and i have gone back to standard in the end.

I haven't even seen the bike let alone the screen so will let you know :D

Why did you go back to the original?

mivv titanium on my tc, 1/2 weight of standard and quieter with baffle in and no loss in performance

The early model exhaust (to 2010) will fit all hexhead versions. The TC will need the troublesome exhaust flap valve removing.
In most cases the headers to 2010 (standard or aftermarket) can be mixed with any end can.
Certain top level Akraprovic headers will fit only with the associated end can. So check any unusual Akra parts.

Fitted a full Remus system to both a 2005 and 2012 Twin cam [same system] with no issues. TC requires removal of exhaust flapper valve [just disconnect the operating cables]

Had the TC remapped at Hilltop afet fitting full system and bike runs beautifully now - not cheap at @ £350 but great VFM.

Cheers
