Hi all
I bought a used 800 in Feb and now have 600mls until the 6Kmls service.
Looking around the net it appears to be only the oil and filter that needs changing, is this correct?
Also what spec oil does the 800 need? (i've heard it needs mineral oil but that seems a bit odd for a new bike)
I will be doing the change myself so obviously the service light will need resetting how much do dealers normally charge for this?

Barry Robson's in York said if it is an ABS model the brake fluid will need changing as well:nenau

Mines coming up to its 6k service as well, letting BMW do it for the sake of the warranty:thumb2

Now i remember why i do my own maintenance although i might get them to do the brake fluid since the rear fluids gone black.

Do a search on here. Quite common, seems to be a reaction between brake fluid and rubber pipe. Just change the fluid, 5 mins, all fixed.

Mind you, don't work on your brakes if you're mechanically inept. Leave it to BMW.

When i got the bike i always thought the rubber pipe didn't really look suitable for brake fluid. I know how to bleed normal brakes just not sure how the ABS would change this.

I don't think it does. It's not a pressurised system like some cars, so bleed as normal. No doubt someone will point it out if I'm wrong.

I had my 800 serviced at 6000miles and cost was 150 euros, this included changing the brake fluid.I also had an issue with the rear fluid going black, this was sorted under warranty after a row with dealer.Only had bike serviced with dealer to preserve the warranty, will do it myself when warranty runs out.

Serviced the bike on friday afternoon and got the light reset today by the nice people at wollaston bmw who did it for free

Re: Rear brake fluid, I can confirm that it's a VERY straight forward job, and once changed the fluide does not (so far) go black again. The hardest job was topping up the reservoir as it sits very close to the frame.

I found it easiest to remove the retaining screw and swing it away from the frame, apart from a spanner to fit the bleed screw, a small length of rubber hose and a jam jar no other tools are required.
