FD Castle Nut

... snip
The 'teeth' on the alloy castle nut are only about 6mm deep and are easily rounded if the socket pops out.

I guess that's why the original nut costs Euro 80.

No worries dude, hope you feel better soon.

I am fit again well 90%, these nuts are bugging me now they are a loose end and i don’t like loose end.
I couldn’t look at them this week due to customer requirements.
I hate how work gets in the way of bike projects.
The first batch is ready, I will start the postage next week, the slowest bit is de-burring th bu—ers.
Thanks for your patients and please remember this is not a commercial venture, these nuts are the deal of the month at £35 each.
I put together a buddies FD recently and this is how I used the Nut wrench.
Remember if anyone is needing one urgent, let me know and I will put you first for postage otherwise I will send them out as ordered.
PS: I sincerely hope you will never have to use the wrench.
I don’t think there is much chance of them slipping on the castle nut, they are a snug fit and are supported by the pinion shaft.
I don’t take the chance, I support the wrench with a packing and clamp an object behind to prevent them sliding back.
This is what I do:
• Mount the FD, I have a picture of the old plate I use.
• Clamp everything down.
• Support under the wrench and loosen the 24mm nut.
• Remove the inner steel sleeve.
• Fit the castle nut wrench, tap it home with a mallet.
• Support underneath and at the back if you can.
• Undo.
• I just reverse the procedure to re assemble.
I will make a drawing of the plate and post it.
