FD leak again?

Final entry on this post. (I hope)
Got the new FD on last night, see pic.
Took it out for a run this afternoon and fine for first 20 miles. Then after a bit of higher speed, it's back! Not as much, though.
First thought was, a Crosstourer or Africa Twin?
Then I thought about it and realised that unless I'd been really unlucky to get a FD that's gone faulty at 3000 miles, there must be another explanation.
When the FD arrived, some oil left in it had leaked from the breather and I had to clean it up. Then, while filling it with new oil with a syringe, some came back out and ran down the unit. Probably about a tablespoon of oil.
It's nearly impossible to get into all the nooks and crannies behind the flange to dry it off. So I think it's just oil that I've missed that's getting flung off at higher speeds.
Just have to keep an eye on it and hopefully any traces will gradually disappear.

John, is the outer casing on your knackered FD in good nick???

(and what's it worth to you?)

PM me if you fancy talking turkey!!

Did you replace the speedo sensor O ring. I dislodged mine when I put it all back together and oil pissed out. A call to Mike quickly sussed the problem. Embarrassed, me? Oh No! ;)

Um, no. Do have a spare new one but thought as the FD isn't that old and was careful replacing the sensor after filling it, should be ok.
Did check around it through the spokes and it seems to be dry in that area. There was quite a bit of oil from the breather over the unit when I removed it from the packaging plus, I lost a good tablespoon when trying to inject that oil. Ran down the back of the FD and nearly impossible to get at behind the flange.
May pull the wheel off tomorrow just to check that seal now you've made me paranoid. Thanks for that! ;)

I went through 4 diffs once on a cx500, the rental and parts place, "chas bikes", just kept supplying them.
In the end i realised i was overfilling.

The same type of FD in my 900 Yam did 75K with no issues. Many do double that. Who knows why BMW struggle so much.

In the GS, I use 200ml of 75-140 full synthetic with no leaks. .

However Ive just found that BMW's original spec for the Mk1 hexed was 220ml. They only dropped the levels because they had so many leaks. Most of which were bearing failures so as they they say over the pond "go figure".

Next time I'm trying 220ml if it blows oil out I'll go back to 200ml.
