Sorry Quint, only just seen your post asking about the knobblies.
TKC80s - horrid. :rob At first take off, they rumble and you go where they want you to go, horrible wobbly feeling up to about 25mph. Then it sort of evens out. Once rolling they are smoother, but the noise is horrendous, even over the full Remus exhaust. I have never had a slide in 13 years using Tourances (I have on wet grass and mud, but not on tarmac, even snowy, icey tarmac). Took the TKCs off as fast as I could and replaced them with Metzeler Karoo 3s, because I want some off road ability (one day I will get to test them!) and reasonable mileage out of the rubber - those TKCs disappeared at an alarming rate. I had been given the heads up by Timolgra I think it was, where folks generally get about 8000, 9000 miles out of them as opposed to 4500, 5000 from TKC80s.

My mileage is diferent to most folks because I am an impecunious coward, I like my fuel, brakes, tyres and everything else to go as far as possible, so I ride accordingly. Tourances I cry if I don't get 13,000 miles out of a set, even running loaded. The TKCs I got JUST 6000 miles out of the set and they are much more expensive to buy - so TKCs are more than twice as expensive to use.

The Karoo 3s, I have gained good confidence in on the road already. I have put just over 3000 miles on them so far. Nice robust tyre for the road, a little rumble but nothing like the TKCs, smoother transition into bends, thanks to the different style of chunks. I will give them a fair crack of the whip before giving myself a final verdict, but early indications are they suit me better than TKCs and will be more use for when I venture off solid tarmac - I still need to pluck up the courage to do that. This year I will see if I can muster the confidence.

Thanks for that info, its great to get a view before you pull the trigger and buy something you regret..

That said, you will now get 95 replies saying the TKCs are as good as a road tyre as anything else and how Intrepid Heroes and Young Chargers can do Firebladeswearingslicks on the outset of the Donnington hairpin and leave them for dead through the Esses....I am NOT an Intrepid Heroe or a Young Charger. I freely admit to being the mobile chicane that even pensionable caravanners get stuck behind and swear at curse at.

I had to stamp on a snail the other day. I was fed up with it overtaking me.

I'm only steady but I can't fault TKCs on my 1150 GSA :thumb2

I've covered last 40,000 miles on them, all year round, all conditions.

No issues what so ever but each to their own :rob
