Oh so nice to be back on the bike today after returning from my Iceland trip 6 weeks ago.

Despite the river dump, Rainbow confirmed the engine was okay and replaced the back wheel (Ebay purchase), the brake calliper unit, spindle etc and did the 48,000 mile service. Picked the bike up today and everything is running sweetly. A huge relief.

So the final tally was;
Rainbow repairs and service - £888,
Iceland get you home repairs (when the rear wheel bearings collapsed and screwed the back wheel and brake) - £300,
Replacment of failed rectifier/alternator in Hamburg - £860

Ready for my next adventure now!

My girlfriend said it was one of the best holidays she has ever had which is great news.

And the kids in my class in Sheffield have now done 2 Skype sessions with children at the school I visited in Iceland and created and animated their own Hidden Folk. We also watched the video I bought back about the effects of volcanic eruptions on local life, and of course watched the GoPro footage of me falling off the bike in various locations. So now I am over the trauma I can see it really was a very worthwhile adventure.

Yes I did. She wasn't there, but I met her sister :bounce1

I brought the video back and showed it to 90 Year 3 children at my school as part of our work on volcanoes. I took our own little rock person with me to Iceland, and got him photographed with various people on my tavels including a geologist, a Park Ranger, the teacher I am working with, oh and a woman who gave me a massage to help my sore back after lifting the bike 4 times on the way into Asjka.
