First May Bank Holiday Wander, Friday 02 May to Monday 05 May

Hi Richard, if you are still looking to fill one of those spaces I'd like to tag along please. If KevB decides to come along at least we can keep each other company on the boring M11 run.

Brian, you are in.

Updated list:

1. Wapping
2. APW
3. Allthegearnoidea
4. Dxtans
5. Irosales

I may not have my GS yet by this date, so I'll put myself in an on-hold list until I know for sure. If anyone else wants to join and there are not more places, I'll give away mine.

Thanks,
Leo

I have reconfirmed our bookings at the Ibis in St Omer for the Thursday and at the Dax hotel, too.

Allthegearnoidea and APW, I have sent you each a PM.

Richard

Thank you, APW and all the...idea, for your contact details.

Having everyone's mobile numbers came in very handy last Thursday when the Chunnel broke down.

I will email everyone the suggested routes down, back and for when we are there. As usual, nobody is obliged to use them. Doin' your own thang, is fine with me.

I will let the hotels know all the names, too. Again, thus worked out well as I was able to cancel four reservations from the side of the M20, reconfirming at the same time that the others would all be turning up, the late arrival option being guaranteed by my credit card.

Richard

I have mapped out:

(1) A suggested route down from St Omer to Avallon (300 miles) taking the motorway down as far as St Quentin, then N and D roads all the way

(2) A suggested ride for either Saturday or Sunday. This is in two legs, all on D or N roads, some maybe quite small but (hopefully) no goat tracks. The outward leg is down to Chateau Chinon, via the lakes (110 miles) with a return leg of 75 miles, again all on D or N roads. I have ridden some of the roads before, either in one direction or the other and maybe both.

(3) A return route from Avallon to the Chunnel, consisting of N and D roads, then the motorway for the last leg from St Quentin back to the train (315 miles)

I just need now to create a suggested route for our second day in Avallon. This I will do either this evening or tomorrow (Sunday). When done, I will email them to everyone.

All the routes have been created in BaseCamp, map version City Navigator NTU 2014.4

Richard

PS Lloyd (LBL) will be joining us on Thursday evening, en-route for Belgium. I have reserved him a room with Brian Maslen.... Brave soul!

The additional day's ride is now done, using different sorts of roads from the other day's riding.

Again, it's in two legs: Leg one (130 miles) from Avallon to north east of Dijon, all on D and N roads. The second leg, again N and D roads, back to Avallon (50 miles).

I will review them once more tomorrow and send them out to everyone by email, along with a list of everyone's mobile numbers. I think that's then it. I am on the 16:50 train out of the UK. See you at the Chunnel.

Richard

Hi All,

I'm travellling out on an earlier train:

OUT: THURSDAY 01 MAY - DEPARTING AT 15:50

BACK: MONDAY 05 MAY - DEPARTING AT 18:50

So I'll see you all at the hotel in St Omer.

Richard, I seem to recall that you have a preference for a particular area in the hotel car park - If i get the opportunity, is there an area you like me to try to "cordon off" for the troupe?

Andy

Hi Andy, if you can try to bag the area to the left as you ride in through the gate. The receptionist knows I would like it but sometimes forgets.

At Easter it was not available as the hotel had the decorators in, which is fair enough. I think Monsieur Le Paintbrush should by now have disparu'ed.
