Perfect excuse to check my babies over It must be frustrating having these issues when many state that a chain-driven bike is a non-starter for them as they want the ease and low maintenance of shaft drive .

Not true, I am on my 5th 1200 GS since 2005, never had a problem with the shaft drive rusting or splines failing and I have ridden almost every day. On the other hand I have only done 5,500 miles on my chain driven 2017 Thruxton R and it requires constant maintenance.
So for a serious high mileage riders chains are a non starter.
